I noticed the difference. I guess whatever he added was to give it that timeless sound quality so it didn't age like other songs from that period

I also have the original Bad CD, and I notice how different dirty diana and smooth criminal sound different from that and the remastered version

Yeah I prefer the original Bad mixes to be honest. I'm glad I have those on CD.

I am pretty sure I have an original 1979 Off the Wall vinyl... but no record player at the moment. So thanks man. YouTube is a saviour!

I just played my vinyl copy of OTW and I definitely have one of the early pressings lol I have those original 1979 mixes of "Rock With You" and "Get On The Floor".

My vinyl copy of Off The Wall has "Rock With You" without the handclaps, and I damn sure noticed because I listen to percussion before anything else.

I didn't notice that much difference with "Get On The Floor" when I listened to the record before. I didn't even know that song before I bought the 2001 remaster ( eek ) so the remix is the one I know best.

I haven't listened to the record in a long time though; I noticed the difference in "Rock With You" the first time I listened to it.

The most noticeable difference is on the fade out - on subsequent versions there is more strings and MJ singing "dance with me" over and over.

I've got both "Bad" and "Off The Wall" on LP and I just checked: the version of "Rock With You" that you posted is RIGHT THERE on the LP....so, I think I'll be ripping it again & burning it to a CDR. Same goes for the "Bad" album, so no need to Orgnote me.... but thanks for the offer anyway. biggrin

Mind you, I played this album on New Years Eve on a relative of mine's PC. It was in fact the LP rip that I'd originally made, no less. Then on my way back home I listened to the remaster on my iPod and I..sorta noticed something slightly different, but it didn't really register that he'd gone back and added handclaps.

It was real nice though, I had somebody dancin and singin to MJ's music all nite long...beautiful cloud9 music cool

By the way, it's not just Michael Jackson who did this, Sade did the same kind of thing on her "Diamond Life" album. I'd go into details but we'd be gettin all kinds of side-tracked. razz

People still do it today

I remember when Usher released that song "My Boo" they went back and added and remixed it at least 3 times, adding more adlibs, changing the dynamics....I think I was the only person who noticed lol

My Boo... what does this mean? I always thought Usher sings My Poo? How could one name a song like that?
The song was a duet from the start?? George Michael is featured in the video.

My Boo means "My baby" or "my love"
