Some other memories of '79...
***I remember hearing Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" for the first time and thinking it was a new Donna Summer single! Donna has many songs where she used her falsetto/little girl voice (listen to the 'Once Upon A Time' album) and so Anita sounds just like Donna Summer sounds on those early albums. ***I remember alot of rock and pop artists were suddenly "going disco" in '79.... ELO "Shine A Little Love" Bette Midler "Married Men" Rod stewart "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" Kiss "I Was Made For Loving You" Even Paul McCartney's 1979 single "Goodnight Tonight" was much more danceable (let's call it "disco-lite") than many of his other rock-styled hits from that period.

Man, "Ring My Bell" is one of my favorite songs of all time. Fredrick Knight definitely wrote a KILLER track. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I remember being seven years old and totally in love with Olivia Newton-John. Her album, TOTALLY HOT, was the first album I ever owned. The hit single, "A Little More Love", was my favorite. My friends and I would listen to it over and over. It's hard to believe it's been 30 years!

Anyways, not all of them were gay. I taped a documentary years ago that said that the lead singer was married to the actress who played Claire Huxtable at one stage, but he was big into Cocaine, so they got divorced. That would be Victor the cop. I heard him telling that lie that he was straight. He's in that group all those years with those openly gay guys and he was doing drugs too. I can almost guarantee that he was trade and at least one of those guys was sucking his dick. All they gotta do is wave a crack rock in his face and he'll give that dick up willingly. Of course, trade thinks they are straight just because they like women and they aren't doing the sucking. Yeah, right. I'm straight too. . . . [Edited 2/20/09 13:50pm] Andy is a four letter word.

It's the spring of '79 (May,to be exact) and it was the day that Donna Summer's 'Bad Girls' album was released,or it may have been a few days earlier. One of our local radio stations announced that they would soon be giving us a "world premiere" of the new album...playing select cuts from it later on that night. So my sister (who was a big Donna fan too) and I stayed up late to hear it.The DJ played the entire Side One and we were in heaven... Hot Stuff Bad Girls Love Will Always Find You Walk Away Up to that point,we had only heard the first single "Hot Stuff",so the other three songs were totally new to us.The song "Bad Girls" was amazing the first time I heard it! I couldn't believe that Donna was being so naughty...lol...asking a dude if he's got a "dime"...lol...it was so daring for her.I thought her vocals on "Love Will Always Find You" were kinda wierd, but I now understand that she was trying out a new vocal style on that track."Walk Away" blew us away! For several months after that,we both thought this was the greatest album ever made, lol. Wow, that is such a cool story right there. I was around 2 months old at that point so I don't have a story that cool but wow, cause I LOVE that CD. One of my favorites right there. Thanks for sharing that SoulAlive. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

This was great time for me. I was 11 and was really figuring out how cool
New York city was. Sidewalk vendors selling boom boxes (new at the time), speakers and 12" disco records. Nice memories

For several months after that,we both thought this was the greatest album ever made, lol. First I had the 45s "Bad Girls" and "Hot Stuff". Then I started hearing the album version of "Bad Girls" on the radio with the ending of just the voices....."toot toot, hey, beep beep". Then I started hearing "Dim All The Lights" on the radio. I said..."damn, how many good songs are on this album". That's when I knew I had to have the album. When I got the album, I immediately loved all the tracks on the album except for most of Side 3. The only track I liked on that side was "On My Honor". Over the years though, I've come to love the other three slow jams on that side also. The album was absolutely perfect from start to finish from the sound of the songs, to the placement of them on the album, and I love the way they continuously flow into each other. The four slow jams in a row were placed perfectly on the album also. A continuous flow of nothing but fast jams in a row, then breaking for three or four slow jams, then getting back to continuous fast jams again. The album is like actually being at a disco or skating rink (for those of us who were too young to get into discos at the time) because that's how the DJs spun records at the time. Fast jams ruled the night and slow jams were played just enough to rest before shaking ass again. And Side 4 of the album is definately years before it's time. I had never heard anything like it before. It was like being took on a trip to what I thought the year 2000 would sound like (little did I know back then the 2000s would be slow and dull). The "Bad Girls" album is definately one of my favorite albums of all time. Donna threw down on that album just as hard as the men did, if not harder. Andy is a four letter word.
