Blondie - Rapture 1981

Though I liked "Rapture", I though the rap was corny.

It was endearingly corny. smile

Must be why I never heard of her. lol So it's safe to say there has been no legitimate female rappers who were of the Ivory persuasion?

BTW, Eazy fired Tairrie for refusing to have sex with him to stay on his record label. THAT is the real reason why her career didn't even make it pass the first 5 out of the 15 minutes of fame!

I remember Tairrie B.There was a gossip item about her in the early 90s.I think I read it in Black Beat magazine? She attended some event where Prince was hanging out at.....may have been one of those Glam Slam parties? Anyway, she was a huge fan and wanted to chat with him,but he gave her the cold shoulder. She tried to approach him and he had his bodyguard get rid of her, lol.

I love this song lol Yes,the rap is corny but alot of the early raps weren't very deep or profound ("Rappers' Delight",for example).

I'm with Blaqueknight on this one!!!

Sure Debbie Harry & Teena Marie spit verses they were not MC's they were singers experimenting and mixing the genres...Tairrie B. would be the first legitamte white female rapper...she was backed by Schoolly D. and N.W.A. as far as the fellas The Beastie Boys goes without saying!

Eazy-E wanted Tairrie B to F*** For Tracks. THAT is The only reason why she was ever signed to Ruthless Records for only one career album.

Tairrie was not signed to Ruthless....she was signed to Copmtown/MCA.

what? Tairrie used to get mad play on Yo MTV Raps now unless you weren't into Hip hop like that in the late 80's early 90's you wouldn't be familiar with her...but yeah she is the first legitimate white female rapper along with Misa,Princess Superstar,Invincible, and this chick out of canada named Eternia.

Same with Soul Sonic Force, Newcleus, Twilight 22, Wuff Ticket, Dr. Jeckyl & Mr. Hyde, Egyptian Lover, Pretty Tony & Freestyle, Felix & Jarvis, Whodini, Kurtis Blow, and so on and so on. The focus was on getting people to party and shake their ass which is what music is supposed to be. It wasn't all about sitting still in a chair and listening to a dull ass ghetto story which is what it later became.

the only connection between the labels were Eazy E....they both had 2 different distributers...Ruthless/Priority and Comptown/MCA I never understood why he didn't put her under the Ruthless imprint and label though.

My guess is, just in case she flopped and he didn't wanna take the heat for putting out a "wack white rapper".
