Of course all the lady singers have some type of diva issues lol , even though Lyn was extremely down to earth. The bad beef with Aretha came from Aretha.

The first time Marva performed at the Apollo, Aretha was on the bill. Marva was a huge fan, so she walked up to Aretha and told her how much she admired her. Aretha looked at her, rolled her eyes, and walked off without saying a word. That did it for Marva. She would never cover an Aretha song after that. smile

Lyn had a couple of bad encounters with Aretha. The first one was at the Apollo, too, where both were billed. Lyn overheard Aretha laughing after her set, telling others that Lyn would never get anywhere because she couldn't sing. The other time was somewhere in Manhattan in the mid-1970s, when James Brown and Lyn went out for dinner and bumped into Aretha. James and Aretha chatted, and when James introduced Lyn to Aretha, Aretha wouldn't shake Lyn's hand and rolled her eyes. James was pretty upset, he felt disrespected, too.

She did the same thing to Gladys. Aretha strikes me as a female that don't like women and cater to men, i heard about her younger days.

Yep,that sounds like Aretha lol I've heard numerous stories like those...lol..For some reason, she always appeared to be insecure/threatened around other female singers,as if she was in danger of losing her "Queen of Soul" status.

Looks are truly deceiving disbelief

Ms.McCrae doesn't strike me as the catty type.

What I don't get though is, they get a SHIT load of ass whoopings from their men,,,,but end up taking out their hostility against their fellow female peers lol as if the shit ain't HARD enough as it is.

Gwen is the most difficult (I chose a rather inoffensive word since this is a public website) woman I have ever worked with. Her issues are too big for this world, which is why after two years, I called it quits. What an amazing performer, though.

But she was jealous of other artists like I've never seen before. She was even jealous of Lyn Collins - more than a year after Lyn passed away. confused

But I agree about the whoopings from men .. none of them chose their men wisely.

The Cher-Diana Ross thing, I don't think there was a beef. I mean I never heard either of them comment about it, maybe because no one asked about how Gene picked them both or how Diana got Gene when Cher had him, lol. But didn't Gene leave Diana for Liza Minnelli or something? falloff

Diana vs. Barbra:

I don't think Barbra has beef but Diana mentioned that as much as she looked up to Barbra, she felt Barbra was "intimidating".

The Barbra/Donna situation was probably that Barbra hated disco, Donna was drunk (I think), and both of them were trying to outsing each other. That said, Donna still respects Barbra as a singer.

Gene Simmons left Diana Ross for Shannon Tweed (his current girlfriend). Diana & Shannon were already sisters-in-laws due to the fact that one of Diana's brothers were married to one of Shannon's sisters at the time.

Do male divas count?

If it does, how about George Michael vs. Boy George?

Bette Midler vs Barbra Stresand, been at each others throats since the 70s, when Barbra less than impressed with Midlers 1979 hit "The Rose" which by the way was one of the greatest movies ever made, eclipsed Streisands 1977 bomb a Star is born. She (Ms Streisand) said I am a singer who acts, she is an actress who sings, Barbra started as a bit of miskeit but became elegant quickly playing period roles and singing show tunes until 1970s stoney end (The first song of hers with a beat) and is quite elegant compared to Middler whose known for her tongue in tit humor, marijuana usage and enormous camp appeal. To me Barbra may have triumphed, but their both goddesses in my eyes
