That said, rap/hip-hop has had a weird history, lol. I have always considered them to be two different things. Hip Hop being the culture and rap being the music of that culture. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

So, what would you consider Public Enemy or Tribe, or KRS1? They rapped about things that were socially conscious. It was not just about the beat with them. They hit you with the lyrics. Rap is really about what is going on around you, whether it is "Rapper's Delight", or "My Addidas", by Run DMC. Rap is all about the lyrical content. It does not seem that way now, due to the fact that we have these wanna be rappers like 50, who may be rapping about what is going on in their world, but it gets hidden behind some whack beat; but it has always been about the content. The line has been watered down over the last 13 years ... But I would say Public Enemy, KRS1 / BDP are Rappers...Rap is hard in your face nowhere to hide ...please don't tell me this ... a real message ...what did he say...you said what...oh thats what's going on...music and lyrics you feel.. But I think Hip Hop is party music.... it's let your hair down.... lets joke about... but you know what i'm saying happens...a message but it does not have to be real or have any real meaning ...you don't feel it as much Tribe / Da La Soul / Run-DMC etc.. are Hip Hop Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
James Brown & Michael Jackson RIP, your music still lives with us!

Even during the party era of the 1970s and 1980s, there was some conscious. You forgot about the Last Poets and Gil Scott Heron, maybe the godfathers of rap music. Rap was always very diverse. There was something even personally conscious about "Rapper's Delight" when Wonder Mike mentioned a story about a guy coming over to his friend's house eating badly-cooked food.

I think that's why lyric and music wise I put "Rapper Delight" in to the Hip-Hop box because it does not effect you as much as say.... "The Message" you can feel it ....damn you can smell it...which is real "Rap" Broken glass everywhere People pissing on the stairs, you know they just Dont care I cant take the smell, I cant take the noise Got no money to move out, I guess I got no choice Rats in the front room, roaches in the back Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat I tried to get away, but I couldnt get far Cause the man with the tow-truck repossessed my car Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! Don't get me wrong, I love Hip-Hop and Rap but I think their is a level of respect artist should give to the music the craft of putting a good Hip-Hop or Rap record out....like a jazz record or blues ..etc.. You get alot of people branding Hip-Hop ...Shit-Hop ...and can't understand that 50 Cent is not Hip-Hop or Rap he's just Pop Music like say Britney and his music should be judged in the same way... music with no soul or feeling ..fake Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..!
