The Racial Implications In Chris Brown A-Rod Fracasses.

Mass media is a wierd animal.

The reason I say this is because minoroties have to be more careful then the majority when it comes to bad behavior. The way these things get reported you'd think Chris Brown was the first man to EVER get in a physical fight with a woman or that A is the first athlete to take steriods, at least since Barry Bonds. It gets discussed infinitum, major news stories carry them, groups are formed you get the idea.

Hell the OJ trial was tagged the Trial Of The Century. Was he the first one to be accused of beating or murdering his wife? No, but this was the TOTC??? Didn't Limburg's baby get kidnapped and killed? I'm just sayin.

It also feeds into the notion that no matter how far the climb they WILL eventually fall, not because a black celeb did something stupid but a celeb did something stupid because they're black (Whitney and Bobby, OJ, Tyson...) and it will get covered that way.

I wish black celebs would be smarter and not do this crazy stuff in public but I'm living in a dream world. Is this thread off-base?

i think the media coverage on this one is surrounded more by their age and was something no one (public wise) saw coming. they're both on top of the charts, young, highly marketable, & 'good looking'. i understand what you're saying but in this case i think most people are looking beyond that. so we can hope.

The Chrihanna coverage has nothing to do with race. It has more to do with their age and in Chris' case, people thought he was squeaky clean.

I totally agree.Irnocally,I remember Whitney Houston suggesting the exact same thing. This was in the early 90s,before her own scandals.

I just wish that these black celebrities/artists would stop and think before they do something stupid. They need to look at the scandals that came before them and learn from other people's past mistakes.
