New Tori Amos album "Abnormally Attracted To Sin"

This is just about the best news I could've asked for on my birthday. mr.green

From today's press release...

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--There will be thousands of artists and tens of thousands of music fans gathering at over 60 venues for this year’s South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, TX, but all eyes will be on groundbreaking star Tori Amos, headlining one of the most anticipated events in the conference’s two decade-plus history, on Thursday, March 19, at historic Austin club, La Zona Rosa.

The Grammy nominated singer/songwriter is headlining a star-studded Universal Republic Records showcase at the popular venue, sure to be looked on as one of the must-see events of the four day festival. Tori will be performing new songs from her upcoming Universal Republic debut album, ABNORMALLY ATTRACTED TO SIN, scheduled to hit stores and the digital domain this spring, as well as other classics from her influential repertoire.

Tori’s recent signing with Universal Republic is in keeping with the inventive star’s unconventional approach to the artist/record company relationship. Universal Republic will distribute Tori’s new album, as well as correlate other ventures in tandem with Tori’s prolific creative output. ABNORMALLY ATTRACTED TO SIN, her tenth studio album, is another innovative chapter in the artist’s trailblazing story. Every track on the album will be accompanied by a corresponding 'visualette,' featuring footage that has been captured over the past year. Shot in HD and Super 8, the visualettes will incorporate a documentary style.

Tori’s most recent album, AMERICAN DOLL POSSE, which has been hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as 'her best album in years,' was released in 2007 to a chorus of rave reviews. The captivating album, like many of her previous efforts, adhered to a strong conceptual theme, with Tori inhabiting multiple archetypal female personae, a testament to her willingness to continue to push the boundaries of the female singer/songwriter.

Regarded as one of the most emotionally fearless live artists in music today, her most recent world tour, launched in the summer of 2007, saw her soar with her first full-fledged rock band in nearly a decade. Media platforms such as the BBC lauded both her live show and album as 'returning Tori Amos back to the forefront of a genre she defined...still pushing her own boundaries.'

It's strangely perfect timing too. Just in the past week I've started listening to her again for the first time since the ADP tour ended.

I'm sensing a very dark record. This is good.

Thanks for the info. Maybe it'll put me back in the mood for her music. I didn't spin ADP as much as most people.

ADP was a letdown to me. SW and TBK were wonderful records, but ADP just seemed a little... forced?

And she looked like Cher with that silly red wig.

Hopefully this one will be a return to form.

Well, I do know that the title is a reference to Guys and Dolls. Not sure how that will play out, but it's intriguing.

I also know that in conjunction with the DVD release of the ADP tour that there is a Best Of for the Legs & Boots series. Funny, cuz I'm working on my own version of that.

Surprised at all the ADP dislike. I thought it was her most exciting record since Choirgirl. Still love it.

I really love Tori and am looking forward to the new album. I really enjoyed ADP. I thought it was a nice change from the boring AC rut she had been on her previous couple of albums.

I haven't a purchased a new Tori record since 2005! I lost her with the Beekeeper.

However, the past few months have been the most trying and emotional times. And there's no other artist like Tori Amos when you're "going through it," as some of my friends like to put it.

I'm apprehensive, but inetested. smile

I wish I could go to SxSW!

She says later this year. I think it's called The Road Chronicles.

Looking forward to this (the album). I hope that even if it's not a continuation of the ADP sound/vibe, that at least it's not a return to the adult conemporary stylings of the first half of the decade. In my explorations of her, I found that I like her glam and dramatic.

I don't listen to The Beekeeper a lot, but I still adore the title track. I wish some of her new stuff are along those lines.

That's funny... I would take SW and TBK over ADP any day of the week.

There is nothing on ADP as majestic as I Can't See New York, Original Sinsuality or The Beekeeper.

And a lot of the "dark" tracks on ADP sounded contrived to me. Code Red and Smokey Joe just sound like attempts to re-create the sound of her dark Pele-Chorgirl years.

The only ADP tracks which I felt were worthy of Tori were Fathers Son, Dark Side Of The Sun, Dragon and Velvet Revolution.

I found the previous two records extremely boring for the most part. The Scarlet's Walk concept was great, but it failed in its execution. The Beekeper might well be my least favorite Tori album after Strange Little Girls. zzz
