Johnny Cash - "Hurt" .. maybe not better. poignant in its own way, especially with the video.

I also enjoy Wham!'s version of "If You Were There" than I do The Isleys' version

Cover versions that improve on the original? hmmm

-Sinead's cover of Nothing Compares 2 U
-Jimi's version of All Along the Watchtower

These two aren't superior, but I'd say they're both on par with the originals. nod

-Nirvana's take on The Man Who Sold the World
-Elvis covering Unchained Melody.

I don't agree on the Madonna cover of "I Want You" but that's just me.

The Jackson 5 - "Who's Loving You" (all because of lil' Michael, lol... plus different arrangements)
Al Green - "How Could You Mend a Broken Heart"
Aretha Franklin - "I Say a Little Prayer for You"
Troop - "All I Do Is Think of You"
Marvin & Diana - "Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)"

I love Madonna more than Marvin Gaye... but I had to laugh, because Marvin's version is much better compared to Madonna's version. I think she did a good cover version though.

my vote goes to Killer by Seal but I think the George Michael version is 100times better.

I hate the EW&F cover of this song. Ironically, I think the Beatles version is much more soulful. Earth's version sounds so commercial.

I feel the opposite.

Mr.Maurice White put alot of energy and life into the song,,,,whereas the Beatles' version sound so stiff and robotic.

As a true music lover, I must say, I really do think that this thread really should've been titled, "Which covers do you prefer?" As opposed to, "Remakes That Are Better Than The Original!"

I believe you should give repsect back to the original composers and their compositions....cuz whether YOU like that original song or not, at the end of the day if they didn't come up with it, you never woulda heard it in the first place, know what I mean?

In my opinion, saying that Madonna's version of "I Want You" is better than Marvin Gaye's is like saying that this version of "Beat It" is better than Michael's:

nod and the horn-arrangements of EW&F add spice in the groove too.
Not shure but i think back then, Maurice was awarded somehow for this rendition ?

What bout this beetlejuice ?
