Chicago appreciation

Their horn section is on par with EWF's Phoenix horns, and Tower Of Power. The song Beginnings, at the end with all of the horns etc coming together...hello Radiohead..I now recognize where u got your National Anthem from hehe..and all the jams..you cant deny their shit. Question 67 and 68? Forgetaboudit! Peter cetera can blow with that high voice.

Make Me Smile-
Sat In Th Park
Just You and Me
Ive Been Searchin So Long
Wishin YOu Were Here
Call On Me
Happy Man
If YOu Leave Me Now
Feelin Stronger Everyday
Old days
Color My World
Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is

etc etc..can u tell I have the Rhino double disc lol

Well, considering that Chicago has had 5 previous greatest hits compilations, I'd be surprised if this new one went platinum. But yeah, I'm down with Chicago. They were and in a live setting are still great. Rhino has also put out all of their studio albums from I to VIII so far, all classics!

Oh, by the way rd, you might be happy to know that I went back and listened to the second half of Joshua Tree and I don't dislike it as much as I thought. Running to Stand Still and One Tree Hill are cool songs...

I got the red and blue Chicago hits albums that came out three years ago that had two new tracks a piece. One song from them was actually sort of a duet with Lenny Kravitz, and another song- Here in my Heart was actually a #1 hit on the adult contemporary stations. I was surprised that these newer decent songs weren't on the Rhino hits collection...

RD, you are LATE! You gotta get all the remasters, and the IV album! The latter isn't remastered yet, but every album up to that one has been, so I figure sooner or later that one will be too.

Pre-'80s Chicago kicks mucho ass. Their horn section is not to be f*&^%$ with, and Danny Seraphine is very underrated. Unfortunately Cetera and those whack ass ballads during the '80s make people forget, or not know at all.

I'm sorry, I got my Roman numerals mixed up. NOT the IV album, the VII album. Which is the most jazz influenced of all their albums.

Nah, it's cool! We've all gotta defend our favorites like mutha fuckas, or we just aren't being true to ourselves! Hell, if people here hadn't bothered to sing the praises of Bjork so loudly after I pre-judged her I wouldn't have found out how cool her stuff is.

I dig early Chicago, but there Horns while tight aren't with the Elements IMHO.Peter Cetera is a decent Bass Player. All Acts after a while have too pay the Bills.

pre 80s chicago is my favorite, but there were still some 80s songs that i liked... so, i will probably be picking up the double disc set in addition to the remasters of the 70s albums... that will pretty much satisfy all i need of their 80s output... unlike their 80s output, nearly all of chicago's albums from the 70s are of a very high quality... and those that aren't, still have enough good songs to warrant buying them...

Every single one has been mastered from their debut up till Chicago VII - this is the first Chicago album I had ever bought, and the first half of it is their most jazz influenced music of all their albums, I think. The only remaster I don't have now is Chicago III. "Wishing You Were Here" with them damn Beach Boys singing background vocals is on VII.

I picked up Change's debut album tonight too. woot!woot!

And my silly ass let a clerk that's always cordial to me talk me into buying one by someone I never heard of - but liked. Hopefully, I wasn't reacting in a knee jerk fashion and won't end up regretting it. eek

who is it?

Karl Denson. It's called The Bridge. He's from the Greyboy Allstars. I've heard of that group, but not him. The album also includes Saul Williams and Michael Franti from Spearhead. I listened sporadically to all of the songs in sorry Tower Records, but sometimes when I do that and buy on impulse I find out I didn't like an album the more I listen to it. So far I dig it.

Here's the review from Amazon.com

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Saxophonist Karl Denson makes no bones about the fact that he plays a funky jazz tailor-made for people to get their groove on--and never more so than on The Bridge, an album that strays far from his jazz roots. Already known for his love affair with funk, both as a solo artist and as a member of the Greyboy Allstars, Denson adds some other interesting nonjazz wrinkles. A strong Afro-beat influence manifests itself in some slamming horn charts and percolating rhythms, particularly on "Elephants" and "Because of Her Beauty." Denson gets soulful on Curtis Mayfield's "Check Out Your Mind," doing a passable job with the vocals (several tunes here feature Denson singing) and embellishing it with sitar and surreal psychedelic production touches. The album also benefits from a hot production job from Erik Newsome, who captures the nearly rock & roll energy and intensity of the KDTU live experience. This is definitely one for the fans who like it when Denson does his high-energy groove thing. --Tad Hendrickson
