Thank you evillol

That nasal mess took the sexuality outta the song,,,,,I would say it was a female parody of a Marvin Gaye song instead of a "cover".

I love this song.

Here´s my pick. Joe Cocker´s good at covers.

I haven´t heard the originla of this one, but I know it´s a cover and I love it.

I could make a long list of remakes that are better than the original by using just the Isley Brothers and Aretha Franklin.

Brothers Johnson--Strawberry Letter 23
Although I like the original by Shuggie Otis, I heard the Brothers Johnson 1st and has a thump to it and is funkier. Shuggie kills it on guitar though.

I agree with al of your choices except for "I will always love you". In my opinion, Whitney overdid this song. The original version, stuck closer to the concept, the character is breaking up with someone and is putting their feelings down on paper. I don't know about you, but if she was breaking up with me, I would hate to have her screaming off the top of her lungs. Dolly's was more senstive to that person's feelings. Yes, Whitney has a great voice, but it did not fit the mood of that song.

It was a Marvin Gaye title track and classic... it's not even really a Madonna classic.

I like Madonna & Massive Attack's version, but they didn't make it better. They would have actually had to improve on it!

Throwing in my twocents I perfer the Robert Palmer version over the Maddona version, even though his was part of a medley.

I think Mavin would have approved of his version.

Cover versions that improve on the original? hmmm

-Sinead's cover of Nothing Compares 2 U

The Family's version sucked. It's the only song on their album I don't like. And Prince's cover wasn't much better either. Sinead made the song listenable.

The production was on point though,,,,,what a waste, throwing that song on corny Paul(???) instead of singing it himself.

what's more she made the song one of the most recognisable songs
around the globe. it probably rivals purple rain in ranking on
lists of most played prince penned compositions on radio and in
the general public's memory.

even people who thoroughly dislike prince usually shut the fcck
up once you tell them this is one of his songs.

you better not play them prince's version though evillol

beyond that, imo, the sinead version just improved the song in a
dramatical way. before, i considered the track ok but nothing
special. when she released her version it just blew me away. and
as the success of her version proves, it blew lots of people all
over the world away.

The chord changes on Sinead's version are actually different, which made the improvement, which made it better! And don't get me wrong because The Family is probably my favorite "Prince" album.

ok, so sinead should have/could have pulled a "prince" on prince's ass
and said "it's my song, you came up with the basic idea but i changed
it up and re-recorded it"

lol evillol

no royalties for you prince no no no!

I like that version. I also like Phil Perry's version from a couple years back. But the original is the best. Yes I'm biased. razz lol
