Don't know about Trouble Funk, but I think that the Go-Go scene is still pretty big. Chuck Brown released an album last year (or 07...can't remember) that was really good.

Go-go is still alive and well. I group up during its heyday. Folks would do go-go covers of songs.

Trouble Funk
Rare Essence
Junkyard Band
Little Bennie and the Masters
Chuck Brown

Yes, it's the same monotonous beat, but the groove is soooo thick. headbang

That old guy, who always resembled Stripe from the Gremlins movies to me, is the godfather of go-go music. Show some respect! no no no!

I'm a native Washingtonian and I am biased where I only prefer Go Go music from the past and of course all music by Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers : D. He still RULES.

Check out http://www.windmeupchuck.com

Chuck Brown performed at one of the inaugural balls which I actually attended and he TORE it UP! He played classic hits like Run Joe, Need some Money, etc.

Current Go Go music I have no clue about but I only prefer Chuck Brown when it comes to current Go Go.

Just my take on this.

biggrin

For the Junkyard Band, they were. Hence their name.

Hey, you have your opinion.

I challenge you to find tighter polyrhythmic live music that melds African/black American call-and-response, jazz, blues, Caribbean/South American percussion, good ol' funk that also focuses on musicianship among urban youths (outside of a church setting, that is).

And, keep in mind that one lady whose music this board loves to praise as visionary cut her musical teeth playing with go-go groups in D.C.

Your really showing your ignorance to say something like that about Chuck Brown and Go-Go has its roots in Funk something you should know if you are a Prince fan. Even Prince puts G0-Go in his music when he plays D.C.

1) There was no question.
2) The people I see blasting the Black Crowes sometimes look like stoners. The people I see jamming to Steve Vai and Joe Satriani sometimes look like weirdos. And, the folks blasting Coltrane often remind me of Alan Alda. Funniest, perhaps, are the librarian-looking ladies who swear by Prokofiev and Gorecki.

But to judge music based on one's comfort level with people one sees enjoying it seems to miss the point of listening to music altogether. Dontcha think?

3) At the risk of sounded like an old fart, how old are you?
