Ali was the "GREATEST"- what point is it for NAACP to "stage" him. Yes I think you should be awarded while the blood still runs warm in your veins- however- he did not have to be onstage for 7 1/2 minutes - visibly moved by emotion yet not able to communicate it. It was over the top. BTW he looked very handsome in his tux Yeah. I CAN see why they wanted him there but it still was sad and too much. We used 2 box (with boxing gloves), and he'd imitate Ali. I was a bit 2 young 2 watch Ali fight on TV, but I do remember his last few fights. In my generation, I was all about Tommy "The Hitman" Hearns, and Mike Tyson, both of whom my Bro also loved as fighters. ANYWAY... (good coffee) as I said above, I really dug the Ali award, Stevie's performance, and Will Smith's speech. I'm actually surprised that Stevie's voice is still as good as it is. The atmosphere surrounding the first Ali-Frazier fight was INSANE!!! Even the nuns at my catholic school were talking about the fight. | |
