I am not exaggerating when I say Giant Steps changed my life. My attempt at becoming a serious musician stems from hearing this album, for the first time, four years ago.
I personally hold it and A Love Supreme, as greater artistic statements than Kind Of Blue.

My Dad likes John Coltrane. Seriously, unless Iam smoking something (which I dont), I just cant get into it. To me, its just improvised sax playing. No doubt its awesomely played, but hey, thats just how I feel.
I understand people who dont like music I listen to like Yes or Emerson Lake and Palmer (which I like), but what bugs me is the elitist attitude some jazz fans have. I know people like this and it pisses me off. I hope no one is like that here.

unbelievable album!!!
A lot of what it is for me with Coltraine's playing is all of the feeling in it. When he is wailing that shit out you are just like: Daaaaamn! What's this guy got goin on inside of him! A lot of feelings in what he is playing. My Coltraine records were heavy on my stereo after I got divorced. Up at night with Coltraine's screaming wailing sax was just what I needed at the time Giant Steps Transition Interstellar Space A Love Supreme Some of my fav Coltraine albums. Giant Steps has to be some of the toughest chord changes ever!
I don't think it's nearly as good an album as A Love Supreme, but it's a great collection of songs. My Legacy
