Totally forgot it was on... started flipping channels and saw Steview Wonder with the Jonas Brothers and that pretty much fortified that I wasn't missing anything.

The only touching moment was Jennifer Hudson who clearly did all she could to keep her composure. She looked great and sounded awesome...not over the top just enough to let you see she is still in great pain.

Now I'm gonna sit back and wait to see who did Chris Brown bitch slap...stupid ass motherfucker.....R&B's Pop Teen Icon is in for some serious slamming by the press...

Radiohead In Rainbows should have won album of the year. Though I'm a big Zeppelin fan that Plant/Krauss project is so freakin' boring!

For all of the truly brutal and utterly atrocious moments on the show (Stevie and the Johnus Bros-WTF!!!!; the Four Tops tribute while heartfelt was a huge letdown; and U2...love those guys; but I just don't dig the new song...utterly borning...), there were some really interesting moments on the Grammy's...

The theme in 09 to me was keep it fresh and current with a few curveballs to boot, something the Grammy's has NEVER done...I applaud them for at least thinking along those lines....

In other words, it was far from the worst Grammy's I've ever seen since the likes of Jethro Tull was winning Heavy Metal awards...

Al Green

The Rev getting his props, even though he had to share the stage with Timberlake (no beef against the kid...in fact his last album was pretty good for a mainstream pop album; better than some folks on the org would probably admit...But Rev. Al doesn't need the help...Not even...)

MIA, Jay Z, Kanye West, T.I. and Wayne

If you love hip hop, you loved this performance...To me it symbolized just far the genre has come on the Grammy's....And it was probably the most exciting performance in terms of the new generation getting their shine and respect...And MIA on the verge of having a baby onstage but still rocking it???...priceless..Ha!

Adele

I dug her performance...She has a very cool understated voice...But that shit got nerely ruined by the Sugarland chick who started to step all over the song...Adele saved it though...

Radiohead

They performed my least favorite song on the In Rainbows, and still rocked it...Yorke was trying to get funky (lol); the band was locked into a groove and the Marching Band?...dope...

Coldplay

I liked their first two albums and that was it for me...They got pretty bloated and overrated...But I swear I was impressed by their performance (the Jay Z cameo didn't seem forced; his rhyme went with the somber feel of the song...); Hell, I even like "Viva La Vida"..Coldplay can come off as a lightweight Radiohead, but this time they didn't drop the ball...

J-Hud

Her winning the award was just a good moment...You got to be on the cold hearted bastard shit not to be touched in some way...And even if i didn't like the song she sung, I felt the power of her voice....

Lil' Wayne

I've seen him on three award shows and he had yet to give a performance that lined up to all the hype...In fact, he borderlined on some bullshit...But he got it right with this one....By performing a song in which the lyrics were layed out for even the most staunchest of critics of hip hop to understand, he validated the hype...Wayne getting socially conscious with Robin Thicke (I dig the kids voice) about the plight of his ravaged hometown of New Orleans was real...But then he was insightful enough to include great New Orleans musicians and artist like Alan Toussaint and Terrence Blanchard in performance...Probably the most surprising performance for me that night...Who knew?...lol

Whether if it was to see MJ do the moonwalk (or some other new dance), to see if Prince was going to kick the mic stand over during his electrifying performance, to see if Stevie was going to play his harmonica for 15 minutes straight, to see Patti LaBelle kick her shoes off, to see Gladys Knight sing her heart out, to see New Edition, Janet Jackson, Hammer (lawd, Hammer's performance would be so exciting!), and on and on.

Watched the Grammy's last night in the UK....well it wasn't that bad but it did seem like the US acts took a big backseat...and the Brits ran riot....It was the Brits Awards but in the US...crazy ...I mean I like to see the UK do well but when you have the Grammy's you want to see the BIG US Stars...but you just didn't have any of them their all the US acts did not have any stage presences..

What did they have Stevie doing...very sad and strange...roll on the brit awards for some drunk action and a fight in the crowd..

I stopped watching award shows years ago. Award shows were always bullshit, but like many others I used to feel obligated to watch them just so I knew what was happening. I remember being at a friend's house in 1997 and I insisted we watch the MTV Awards. Well, not only were both of us bored shitless, but I was embarrassed for the industry. Two hours of mind-numbing, soul-sapping emptiness. So crap award shows are nothing new. That year the show was dominated by such musical giants as Puff Daddy, Will Smith and The Spice Girls. And there was a WOEFUL performance from Missy and Lefteye of "Ladies Night". The whole thing was a triumph of mindlessness. I stopped watching award shows not long after that.
