Donna was disco, which was a great genre of music. Beyonce is shit hop, which is...well, uh.....nothing actually. The fact that she makes shit hop alone takes her out of Donna's league. Hell, it takes her out of any real entertainer's league, including circus dog acts. lol

I'm neither. I'm a 25 year old Black Man from the suburbs of Chicago.

But if you can make ignorant ass statements about an entire genre of music, so can I!!!

Oh, well that explains it then. You like shit hop because that's what has dominated the entire time since you've been old enough to buy music. I was around before it dominated so I grew up on better music and refuse to lower my standards.

Actually, a majority of the stuff I listen to is older music because I appreciate the musicianship.

I also haven't listened to the radio in years.

I grew up listening to the same shit you did.

Disco music is just as plastic and manufactured as hip-hop ever was.

The difference is hip hop found a way to stay relevant in spite of criticism.

There was just as much shit in the Disco Era and beyond as there is today.

So, don't turn your God Damn nose up at me because the date on my Birth Certificate says 1983 instead of 1963 or '73!!!

Then what's the problem then? Is it because you want me to stop downing the beloved shit hop? Well, that's not gonna happen because I absolutely despise it.

Disco music is just as plastic and manufactured as hip-hop ever was.

Call it what you want but it was made with original melodies and choruses and made with instruments from the ground up just like every other genre has been, including classical and country (two genres that bore me). The same can't be said for shit hop though.

The difference is hip hop found a way to stay relevant in spite of criticism.

It sure has. It's very cheap to make and record labels love it for that reason.

There was just as much shit in the Disco Era and beyond as there is today.

There was some shit but not all of it. Today's is all shit.

Oh, I'm known for turning my nose up at things I don't like because I'm a cool bitch but age isn't something I turn my nose up at. Just ask Timmy84 or paisleypark4.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with the 'Another Time And Place' album. It was exactly the type of synth-pop that Donna needed to be making in the 80s.Her two previous 80s albums were inconsistent but 'Another Place In Time' found her going back to her roots somewhat.

Exactly. The stuff on that album especially with "This Time I Know It's For Real" help to give Donna back the popularity she lost after 1980, well technically after 1983 since "She Works Hard for the Money" was her biggest hit in years after "Wanderer".

Hmm. I thought 1982's Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger) was bigger than 1980's The Wanderer. I'm speaking the single, not the albums.

Yeah, at the expense of hip-hop (at an art form) slowly being dumbed down for the last couple of years after 1993.

Just so you know, my all-time favorite hip-hop era was within 1988-93. Those were the days where we had many different styles of rap that used to co-exist on FM radio, The BOX, Yo MTV Rap!, etc. But as soon as the major record labels started to put more focus AND money on the gangsta style of rap only, THAT was the beginning of the end
.

No,it's not.Say what you will about disco, but at least it was made with real instruments and musicians, and not a bunch of samples. In fact, many of the hip-hop songs are based on samples from the disco era.Hell, the first real rap hit ("Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang) was based on a sample of Chic's "Good Times".I dare you to say that Chic's music was plastic and manufactured.

Even the shittiest disco songs sound better than 90% of the crap that they play on the radio today. Why do you think the music industry is in so much trouble right now? Why do you think people don't even waste their money on CDs anymore? That stuff is garbage.

Music has become more of a business than art. That's why I listen to nostalgic music more.

If they were gonna get a singer and not a "real" actress for the role,I think Kelly Rowland should play Donna. She looks alot like Donna....all they'd have to do is put a large wig on her head.Donna was always a "big hair" person, lol.
