According to the Org Coldplay are shit. They're nothing but a U2/Radiohead/a-ha/Travis wannabe band. Apparently.
'Cos, you know, no other artist has ever been influenced by those who went before them.
I mean, just imagine what Prince would have sounded like if he had been influenced by, say, James Brown, Sly Stone, Stevie Wonder or Jimi Hendrix. wink

Man, FUCK the org, okay? If I listened to half of what people on here tell me to listen to, I would dig my eardrums out with a rusty spoon from BOREDOM. I mean, shit...funk and Madonna aren't the only 2 music genres in the fucking universe.
Anyway, I fucking love the song.

I haven't been listening to the radio at all so I'm not on top of things lol . I didn't remember a track named "Rule the World" off of their latest CD. I'll go back and check it out.

I think it's actually called "Viva la Vida" but I thought it was called "Rule the world" because that's what they say in the song shrug

I love Coldplay. But the song is not called rule the world. Do you mean Viva La Vida??

Lost! is my favorite song on the new album, why was it not released as a single.

Hey like the track but don't think the album is that good ...and Coldplay are a good band and have produced some really good music over the years on there other albums ...and yes the org can have a bias towards MJ , Madonna and Funk music ....but that's because Prince is an 80's icon and part of the pack...

The U2 thing is just a joke ...Radiohead - lite is other piss take ....Ah-A well that's just silly... and Travis ...come on...

if that was the case you could add every european band in that list.. lol lol
Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..

I would hate to anger the funk dieties of the Org, but God forbid I actually LIKE something besides Prince, Madonna, and MJ.

Oh, and I LOOOOOVE Beyonce too.
Take that org hmph!

I consider their latest album easily the most impressive, but hey, each to his/her own.

Out of the bands that Coldplay are forever compared to I would agree that they do indeed most resemble mid-period A-ha.
And there ain't nothing wrong with that as the three albums A-ha released from 1990 - 2000 were effin' brilliant, imo. biggrin

I am more into Coldplay than Prince right now anyway!! COLDPLAY ROCKS!! They treat their fans like royalty for one thing!! They never make themselves out 2 b higher than their fans!!!! Whatever they promise 2 bring out in the way of projects, they always fullfil them!!

Can ANYONE on here, EVER say that about Prince?????

By the way, u should see their tour schedule for this year!!! Even Prince cant keep up that type of gruelling schedule now!! They start the 2nd half of their Viva La Vida World Tour tomorrow In Tokyo!! And they are even doing a third trip back 2 the USA for another full tour BY POPULAR DEMAND!!!!! Yes, they listen 2 their fans, unlike U Know Who and a lot of other crappy acts that people seem 2 adore so much on here!!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

come on, they're not touring to please fans. Money makes the world go round, as Joel Grey and Liza MInelli sang in Cabaret.
They have their next album allread done (the GH) so they don't have to worry bout recording new things.

Blur? No. lol I hear virtually no hint of Blur in Coldplay's music.
Chris Martin himself has said that A-ha was the first band he was passionate about, but unless you know A-ha's full body of work (and most folk here don't) then the comparison will no doubt baffle you.

Chris Martin says alot of stuff to the press....he hates them and its a "John Lennon" like way to throw people of the trail...I bet you he had a bet with one of the other guys in the band ...like who can get A-ha in as our greatest ever musical gods...do ya think the NME would buy it....yeap... cool

not saying A-ha is sh*t but they are not the foundation of Coldplay ... lol lol

Totally love it! Great song!

I have to admit that imo Chris Martin's voice has too much Bono in it, but... WTF... U2's new song / performance was way below shit!

Whereas Coldplay had almost the only entertaining performance that evening.

By the way, did any Coldplay fans here watch the 60 Minutes Coldplay interview on Sunday?? I downloaded it and watched it and it was very entertaining!! I loved the part where Chris Martin showed the interviewer the Rules in their studio in London and particularly pointed out Rule #6 about Always keeping a mystery and not giving interviews and he felt that he was showing his underpants when hes interviewed!!!!! lol lol lol lol

Beetlebum?

Kind of and kind of not.
If there's any Blur song that sounds a bit Coldplay to my ears it would be Tender, but even that's a reach.

A-ha are a major influence on Coldplay, no argument. razz
But unless you've heard the albums East Of The Sun West Of The Moon, Memorial Beach and Minor Earth Major Sky then you're not gonna get it. wink

You should check out more a-ha. Their debut is fantastic and filler free. Actually, all of their albums have something to be recommended. For starters, I'm a huge fan of "Stay on These Roads" -- one of the best songs IMO.

"Lost!" was released as a single. It's also my favorite of the album (and even challenging "Shiver" and "In My Place" as my favorite Coldplay song). I think I prefer "Lost?," the acoustic version, but they're both great (as long as it's sans Jay-Z rap). I also love "Viva la Vida" -- loved it ever since I heard it. That Song of the Year Grammy was well deserved.
