D'Angelo Clarifies New Album Name, Guests...Prince may not be on CD! here we go again....
February 06, 2009 04:44 PM ET Gail Mitchell, L.A. While D'Angelo's long-anticipated album is still expected this summer, it remains untitled, according to his manager, Lindsay Guion of GMUSIC. Guion also notes that despite an earlier press release, producer Mark Ronson and Prince have not yet been confirmed as collaborators. "We have spoken to Prince, Mark Ronson and John Mayer's camps," Guion tells Billboard.com. "But nothing has been confirmed at this time." Still on deck for the J Records release -- D'Angelo's first new album since 2000 -- are Gnarls Barkley's Cee-Lo Green, Raphael Saadiq, Q-Tip and Roy Hargrove. Overseeing the project is J Records president of A&R Peter Edge. Meanwhile, D'Angelo has signed with CAA's Rob Light for worldwide representation in regards to touring, branding, merchandising, TV and film, among other areas. Guion adds that plans are still being negotiated for D'Angelo to go on tour this summer, starting in Europe and then heading to the United States. Guion isn't ruling out the possibility of a surprise performance in the U.S. prior to the summer tour's launch. In the meantime, GMUSIC is busy ramping up for its second summer release by Island Def Jam pop/rock newcomer Laura Warshauer. Also repped by CAA, Warshauer recently released a self-titled digital EP. http://www.billboard.com/...9439.story Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! Where's the clarification for the album name?
But if he's seeking film and tv representation, then that means he's back in shape physically, for sure. But can he even act? nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

I don't like the whole guest artist thing, never did.
Don't name drop after the album comes out fine, maybe the liner notes give credit but upfront shows weakness. Just put out a good album and let the buzz happen. Music is the best...

what happen to the good ol days where you bought an album by an artist and got to hear the artist instead of the artist featuring another artist and another and another?

I agree daingermouz. The special guest thing is played out. I guess artists nowadays think that if they have Eve on 1 song, Sheryl Crow on another and Gwen Stafani on another they'll reach out to all their fan bases and that will make the CD sell more.
There's not a whole lot of artists today that can do the Parliament/Funkadelic/Bootsy/Horny Horns/Brides thing anymore. And Rick and P were the last ones who carried that torch.

When did these collaborations/guest artists become such a large part of the scene? I don't know what D'Angelo is really going to put out, but this thread raised the larger question. I don't seem to recall the special guest phenomenon so much in the 80s, maybe it was happening but it wasn't used to market the music? I know sometimes you would catch another famous artist in the liner notes and say "oh, she was singing that part?"etc, or "he was playing bass, cool!". Now it seems like everyone has to have guests, and advertise them.

They just need to let me know when it's going to be released so I can go get it. If D'Angelo is on it, I don't care who else is. D is enough for me. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

lol Fury..maybe it was Andre Cymone?
I'd rather hear D'Angelo do his own thing. I really don't want to hear P on D'Angelo's record. The only guests that I really would like to hear is Pino, Saddiq, Roy Hargrove, etc.

Exactly. I don't give a damn who's on it, just release the damn thing already. I'll see who's on it when I buy the cd. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I'd rather have D do his own thing as well. I would like a double cd.
