Coldplay tries so, so hard to be edgy and powerful, but they come off as being The Monkees trying to emulate the Beatles.

They are equal parts U2 wannabes, Radiohead wannabes and a-ha wannabes, and don't manage to even come close to any of them.

They suck.

I always thought they were overrated and such u2 wannabes. And now they're winning multiple awards like u2, great publicity....

I've seen coldplay's performance on the American Music Awards and
they were awful and tonight's grammy performance and they were horrible.
Absolutely horrible.

Strange....but Coldplay stopped being Coldplay....this new CD is shit...and they know it...that's why they don't like to perform it...it shows...trying too hard to be creative when simple pop is what they do best....they are not U2 or Radiohead or A-ha ....or Blur...and nothing like the Beatles....

So why produce a CD that's not indie student friendly...and try to be too smart..? eek

They had more fun with X&Y , AROBTH and Parachutes...Bring the fun and love back to music Chris and leave that creative "Beatles" lyric shit at home... lol

Did you just use "fun" and "Coldplay" in the same sentence? lol I like em and all, but I'd hardly say they're a "fun" band, but that's just me.

If you thought it was "Bono" singing "Clocks" then you may want to have your ears checked. People always compare Coldplay to U2 but I don't see the comparison really. I would go with the Radio "Ultra-lite" comparison.

Clocks came out before I'd really started listening to them and at that point, Chris Martin's voice kinda DID sound like Bono's a bit.

I understand why people like them. Chris Martin's not a great singer, but he's got a great voice and once in awhile he comes up with some excellent lyrics. I really dig the new record though. I think it's a nice departure from what they'd been doing. For some reason, the choruses of some of the songs sound like drinking songs to me. lol

I always thought they were a lite version of Radiohead, but they have evolved into more of a U2 style anthem band.

Yup.

I really wish people would stop this U2 stuff ....its silly it so far away from Coldplay its mad...maybe that's how they are marketed in the US but really it not them...

And yes Coldplay is about Fun and Love and they are smart guy's but having to prove that they are a "real band" is making them sound like a bad edition of the NME...fu*k what did they know..I hope with the 3 Grammys they can relex and not try to out do the "Beatles" by being too smart... John Lennon was cocky..Paul still is ...George was always the great one but did not want to shout and Ringo...well at least Coldplay have a better drummer...

...Please stop the travis, U2, a-ha..stuff....Blur..Blur... wink
Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
James Brown & Michael Jackson RIP, your music still lives with us!

shrug I'll take The Man Who over every Coldplay album except this last one. Their first three albums have great songs ("In My Place" and "Shiver" immediately spring to mind), but there's too much filler or subpar material (at least IMO).

We'll have to agree to disagree, then. I like The Man Who a great deal, but better than A Rush Of Blood To The Head? Nooooo.

A Rush... peters out for me. If I had the record, I don't think I'd ever spin side 2 (and I really don't get the love for "Amsterdam"). The same is basically true for Parachutes. It looses steam as it goes along (although I at least like the closing song(s) on that one).

Were you listening on AM radio? lol

I have the same issue with "A Rush" and tails off towards the last few tracks, "Parachutes" i still feel is the better cd, X&Y sounds too "disjointed", this is really when i thought they were breaking up, not a bad record it just sounds like alot of ideas thrown together with no direction. Probably have listened to the new cd the most, along with the EP, which with the exception of the Jay Z disaster, all those cuts should have stayed on the record.
