Who should play next year's Super Bowl halftime show?

Now that the Super Bowl has already passed for this year, I'm sure the NFL is probably brainstorming possible acts for next year's show. Interestingly enough, with the exception of Chubby Checker in 1989 during Super Bowl XXIII, nearly all of the halftime shows during the Super Bowl from I to XXVI involved marching bands or "Up With People" type shows. It was the initial attempt by Fox to counterprogram the halftime show in 1992 with a special episode of In Living Color that led to the huge superstar acts playing the halftime show beginning with Michael Jackson in Super Bowl XXVII and with various acts since then. CBS got lucky with MTV presenting the halftime show during Super Bowl XXXV, which featured Aerosmith, 'Nsync, Britney Spears, and Kid Rock with Run DMC, but they also sponsored the whole Janet Jackson Nipplegate fiasco during Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004. Since then the halftime show has been a collection of classic rock and pop acts with Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Bruce Springsteen.

So will the NFL continue to go the grizzled veteran route and book John Mellencamp or Fleetwood Mac? Will they go slightly less veteran and book Def Leppard or Bon Jovi? Will they go for 90's acts like Green Day, Pearl Jam, or Foo Fighters? Will they go hard rock and book AC/DC or Metallica? Will they go country and book Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, or Carrie Underwood? Will they go the classic diva route and try to book either Madonna, Mariah Carey, or Celine Dion? Will they trust younger artists like Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Usher, Justin Timerlake, or Alicia Keys not to do anything controversial? Would they even dare book a hip-hop act like Jay-Z or Kanye West? Or would they book the band which is arguably this generation's biggest rock band, Coldplay? Discuss.

I have a feeling it will be Bon Jovi, they are recording a new record to be out later this year, have a second hits package/box in the works, and most likely will be getting into the HOF next year.

Earth Wind and Fire would be an excellent choice nod Has Stevie Wonder ever performed the Super Bowl show?

Madonna.....I only say that as in the last three years two of my three fave artists (Prince and Bruce) have done it and that only leaves Madge! biggrin

I'm sure it would go down like a led-fart though, so I'll accept a re-formed Guns 'n' Roses, partly re-formed Pink Floyd (we miss you Rick) or The Smashing Pumpkins

Madonna was actually approached to perform at the 1999 (or 2000?) Super Bowl but she backed out.

Van Halen with Dave.

The original Guns and Roses.

Lionel Richie and at the end have the Commodores join him on "Easy and Brick House."

Tina Turner

Donna Summer

Santana (or did he already perform before?)

Patti LaBelle

KC & The Sunshine Band--hey,it's supposed to be "fun",right? lol

Fleetwood Mac---a no-brainer.In fact,I'd be surprised if they don't get asked to perform in the next few years.

Earth Wind and Fire

Lionel Richie and the Commodores

Chicago---imagine hearing a festive song like "Saturday In The Park" at the SuperBowl.

Rufus And Chaka Khan

Kool And The Gang---but only if JT Taylor joins them."Celebration" is the perfect anthem for an event like this.

I believe she dropped out because she was pregnant with Rocco and had morning sickness, not because she has something against the Super Bowl. So I'd love to see her do it in the future.
I love the Smashing Pumpkins' music, but after seeing their last concert, I don't want to see them ever again. Billy Corgan has the worst attitude and would likely insult the audience. He refuses to play his older songs they way they were intended, but bores everyone with these long unmelodic jams that go on and on.
Even though I don't like their music that much, Bon Jovi would be great as well. They are very professional enjoyable live performers.
