Maybe he can, but there's nothing funny in that quote.

I think you would've had to hear his tone to appreciate it.

What was funny about it was that he'd gone off into this fantasy where he was almost talking to himself, in a low, creepy way that was part horny/part angry ("I'd like to fill the space between her ears with my man-juice..."), . As the scenario got more and more absurd, he slipped in "And drive her to a shallow grave...". When Robin snapped to and was, like, 'Wh-wh-WHAT?!', without missing a beat (and in the exact same tone) he threw in the "You don't understand my anger, Robin..."
falloff

And Robin's disapproving "I'm not understanding this whole...scenario..." was also priceless. falloff

That just makes it scarier, that he thinks of doing such violent things to women.

That just makes it scarier, that he thinks of doing such violent things to women.

Hmm...let's recap:

He wants to...

1. have vigorous intercourse with her
2. install his meat product in her eating establishment
3. ejaculate somewhere in or on her person
4. ejaculate inside her cranium
5. engage in sadomasochistic activities with her
6. combine his unsanitary wiener with her canned tuna product
7. have sexual intercourse with her in the trunk of an automobile
8. murder her and bury her corpse in a non-regulation tomb

Maybe I'm missing something here, but - for me - this is a typical Saturday night.

nod Also the acknowledgment that our sexual urges (especially for men) have a violent element to them. I always think of that Eddie Murphy bit:

She said she don't wanna fuck, she wanna make love. Which is bullshit. I mean, fucking and making love...let's be real.

I mean, the physical act...I like to fuck somebody I'm in love with. But I ain't makin' love to nobody. When you get into bed, would you rather have somebody say, "Oh, make love to me!"? Or grab the back of your head and say, "Fuck the shit out of me!"?

i find howard's ideas inappropriate for the airwaves. the sooner this massive cunt shuts up, the better imho

tell ya what, for the purposes of making a point, let's switch things around: instead of him berating a female, and using anti-women/misogynistic imagery to make his point, imagine if he were verbally berating a black person because of his or her skin color (instead of gender, as with simpson).

now is it funny?

i klind of see your point, but find howard's ideas inapporpriate for the airwaves.

for the purposes of making a point, let's switch things around: instead of him berating a female, and using anti=women/misogynistic imagery to make his point, imagine if he were verbally berating a black person because of his or her skin color (instead of gender, as with simpson).

Oh good God, here we go hammer

I'm guessing you're posing the Black angle to ME vs. Ace for a reason, right? Had he been going at a Black person the context would have been completely different, so I can't say that it would have been funny b/c it obviously wouldn't have been the same stream of thought.

Not every "violence toward women" joke of his is funny, but this one is TO ME. Howard is an equal opportunity offender of any & everyone- sometimes it's funny, sometimes it ain't. Bottom line is I was a listener, would be now if I had satellite, & I do find him to be funny most of the time. This rant was funny TO ME, you don't have to agree w/ it. neutral

i did edit my response so you wouldn't take my response personally smile see above. i only wanted to put howard's idiocy into context. had he made similar remarks in a racial context, NO one would think it funny.

violence against women is a HUGE planetwide problem. as you know, even here, in the 'civilized' nation of america, one in four women are abused, mentally, physically, sexually, and most often by the men they are married to, or dating.

howard has no business making an atrocity like this into 'entertainment'. he has no business even implying that actions like the ones he describes are in any way, shape or form, acceptable. not even for entertainment purposes.

i think howard should be shut down. that's just my opinion.

thank you, rant over

Wouldn't you say that instead of "berating" her because of her gender, he's displaying conflicted emotions (he's sexually drawn to her, yet there's also an element of anger)? What if it were a woman making a similar joke ('I want to ride him like a fucking donkey...and when I'm done with him, throw him in the trash')? Would you be receiving it in quite the same way? Is it really "anti-women/misogynistic" to acknowledge some aggression in sexual feelings? What about BDSM? And what are your thoughts on the Eddie Murphy quotation?

for the record i think derogatory language in the name of 'entertainment' is not appropriate. period. no matter if it's directed at someone because of gender, skin color, religion, sexual orientation or any other criteria.

now, it's a lovely saturday morning. i've expressed my opinion on this issue. not going to spend any more time/energy arguing with you over whether misogyny constitutes 'entertainment' or perpetuation of a hostile social climate against women.

in my opinion, the difference is self-evident. but, i've been on the ORG long enough to know i cannot change the mindset of strangers on the internet. i do hope you re-think what howard said, in the context of "hey! some women actually do live in fear of being sexually/physically abused each and every day" and maybe come to understand why howard's remarks are not funny.

but again, i can't change you or the way you think.

therefore, i see nothing to get worked up about here and now. over and out.

have a nice day!

I don't get into kicking a person when they're down, but the notion she's enduring some crusade against weight bullies is ridiculous. Was anyone even thinking about her until she -- herself -- came out ranting about her weight gain... and in those horridly unflattering clothes?

It feels like she and her PR folk concocted this whole "controversy" to get her name back in the books... and so my sympathies are limited.

And it's no more "misogyny" for a man to make this kind of joke than it's misandry for a woman to say, 'Oh my God, Ashton Kutcher is dumb as a fucking rock. But, you know what? I'd still bang the living daylights out of him (I'd just throw him in the trash when I was done smile).' No one would get their Pampers in a twist over that.

This kind of joke is not going to encourage violence towards anyone. It's an acknowledgment of the complexity of sexual feeling (while also being hella funny lol) and to pretend that no one feels this way - although of course Howard's exaggerating for comic effect - is to live in denial.

One of the things that makes the show so important - yes, important - is that it's one of the few places in the mainstream media where people have frank, adult discussions about their true feelings. That's a good thing, no?

She plays a 38-minute set? What a piece of crap she is. Howard's right: Her only discernible talent is looking hot. She can't sing, dance, or act, and her songs are all horrible. If she wants to get fat and pretend that she's really an entertainer then she needs to get a set to do in concert, one that isn't based on ripping off her fans.

I love this quote. I remember hearing it way back when and laughing hard,
not because I find violence against women funny but because Howard's reverie here is clearly absurdist. It's what great comedy does; exaggerates something to clearly show the ridiculous. Howard does this all the time, whether it's about women, men, gays, straights, blacks, whites, and everybody else, and pretty much any religion. Just one of the many things that make him a genius.

dang. i really don't want to get in a fight with anyone today. i was trying to make a point, CalhounSq, not attack you. sorry to offend. i respect you both, and your opinions.

i have to admit i'm biased against howard's type of humor and it's coloring my reaction to his comments about ms. simpson. he has a long-established tradition of being offensive in ways that are simply not amusing. then again, i could just be a cranky old fart smile

i just think he should not have a soapbox as big as his own talk show. just my personal opinion is that he actually causes harm/hurt in an already tense social environment. i don't see his contribution as a 'good' thing. again, just my opinion. here is an example of what i mean. remember, selena was murdered, shot down pretty tragically and traumatically by her own manager:

Howard Stern: Let's go to Selena, now.

Robin Quivers: Please.

Howard Stern: This is the Latin Madonna, the Tex Mex Madonna.

(Selena Music Plays - with sounds of gunshots over it)

Howard Stern: El pellagria. You know what that means?

Robin Quivers: What?

Howard Stern: Slowly.

Robin Quivers: Really?

Howard Stern: I don't know. El la grilla. Mis abios de pesca en la cocina. You know what that means? My fishing gear is in the kitchen. This music does absolutely nothing to me. I have no feel. It's almost like you could not have it on, or have it on, and my mood wouldn't change. Alvin and the Chipmunks had more soul. I'll never get this. I see this on Spanish TV all the time. I have no idea why she would even be popular over somebody else. This doesn't move you in any way, does it?

Robin Quivers: It's got a nice beat, I suppose.

Howard Stern: Spanish people -

Robin Quivers: I wouldn't listen to it if I had a choice.

Howard Stern: I mean Spanish people.

Robin Quivers: If it was playing I'd say oh there was a beat anyway.

Howard Stern: Spanish people have the worst taste in music. They really
do.

Male Voice: They don't like depth.

Howard Stern: No they don't like any depth. It's all like det-det-det-det-det-det-det-deh. All happy. That's because they're all so sad. We have nothing. Our government is corrupt.

Male Voice: Si.

Howard Stern: Si.

Male Voice: Let's dance.

Howard Stern: Let's dance to happy music.

Male Voice: Si.

Howard Stern: Big chubby girls in thongs. You know.

Male Voice: The water is dirty.

Howard Stern: The water is dirty. Our money means nothing on the open markets in Europe.

Male Voice: The government is corrupt. Let's dance.

Robin Quivers: (Laughing.)

Howard Stern: Let's dance to happy Madonna-like music. Let's dance and forget the people starving to death.

Male Voice: And eat spicy food.

Howard Stern: Let's eat spicy food.

Robin Quivers: Lets burn our brains out with the peppers.

Howard Stern: Yeah. Absolutely no feeling whatsoever.

Male Voice: Let's swim to Texas.
