Wow, that's more good songs in one week of charts than we've had in the last 5 years.

It's funny looking at that chart and knowing Prince was just a couple months away from completely dominating it.

Holiday is the only song Madonna made I've ever liked. I forgot all about Sheena Easton... but I though she could blow. Kenny Loggins the begining of the end.. sad

thoughts from this week in 1984....

Genesis ...Phil Collins would never make it on his own

Cyndi Lauper... what a wacky chick . Nice novelty act.

Holiday .... Nice song. Who the hell is Madonna, though? . One hit wonder im sure

Paul McCartney should retire already.

Boy George. ...gee I wonder where he'll be in 25 years?

It's so easy to get nostalgic about music and the 1980's did have some terrible moments but that chart is fascinating to look at as there are so many great songs on there. Popular music is never going to scale the heights of the 1980s again.

The 80s were the bomb musically. Even one hit wonders or novelty acts had to bring the talent to chart. Those days are long gone. pout

You would have loved 1984.The 'Thriller' phenomenon was unlike anything I had ever seen. And then, that summer,Prince came out with 'Purple Rain'.It was an incredible time for pop music! I'm glad I was there to witness it.

What jumps out at me is how much melody has declined in pop music from '84 to where we are today in favour of rhythm & production techniques. I like a lot of the songs on this list, & absolutely love a few of them (jump, owner of a lonely heart) - but even on the tracks I don't care for I think I would have to say that almost every one of them has a clear, memorable melody. I'm not totally clued into the top 40 anymore, but I'm pretty sure you couldn't say that about this week's list.

whats amazing is that there are only 4 or 5 songs on that chart that I can say " I dont remember how that goes". The rest I could start singing on command. Which really isnt a good thing lol

Just look how many good songs are in that list and that's just the pop chart, just imagine if it were the R&B chart back then. Every era has some shitty songs but just look at that list, the majority of the songs are good and believe me, you didn't have to go "search" or "look for" good music because it came to you. It's the total opposite these days and rediculous that there's not even one good song in the charts.
