But for her to smile in that child's face, befriending her knowing that Bee sees her as an inspiration and then bashing her in public...behind her back, there is no if's and's or but's about it, she IS phoney.

she's not phoney, she's been telling the truth that has needed 2 have been said 4 ages ..beyonce is just flash and no substance

I wouldn't dare say I will always love you isn't Whitney song. Do you know how hard it was back then during etta time to have a song without Whites covering to make it there own. Think about it.

Every song Beyonce written isn't hers. Cause we all know she doesn't write her songs.

Whitney version is the best selling female single of all time!!!!!

Beyonce has yet to have a SONG!

Aretha didn't write respect but she is known for it like beyonce is known for her ghetto chants and Crazy in love for camal d*ck lol lol lol lol

Ironically enough, huh? Dolly's version was #1 on the country chart for like weeks in 1974. I think it crossed over to the pop chart too though I'm not too sure what number it placed.

If Etta is mad at Beyonce than I think she has a right to be. She made that song a staple in music history even if it had been done by other artists prior to her making it. Etta made 'At Last' iconic and unforgettable. Etta may be hugging and kissing Beyonce at the 'Cadillac Records' movie premiere, but those pics were taken back in November and the Inaugural ball was in January, and feelings can change in that span of time. After reading the above article where Etta said the whole thing was a joke, I see that she was hurt that she wasn't asked to perform the song, which gives her the right to be pissed IMO.

Beyonce should have humbled herself and shown some respect by requesting that Etta perform the song instead of her PERIOD, but that wasn't going to happen because Beyonce obviously wouldn't know humility if it pulled out her weave and threw it at her. I remember hearing somewhere that Dolly had to remind people that "I Will Always Love You" was and would always be her song because people were forgetting that she had written and performed the song long before Whitney redid it. I guess this is why Prince is soo fickle about letting people remake his songs. Mofos be tryin to steal people songs and shit nowadays lol

Out of respect for the life and history that Ms. James has contributed to black women in music history and American history, Beyonce should have stepped down, so if anyone is being two-faced it's more Beyonce than Etta IMO. Hell, Ving Rhames showed respect to a film legend when he gave an award that he had won to Jack Lemmon who had also been up for the award if I remember correctly, so why couldn't Beyonce step off her pedestal and do the same?

Plus, Beyonce made a comment in the interview after the performance about it being her first time to perform in an election, which was a bold-faced lie, because she and her two back-up singers AKA Destiny's Child sang at Bush's first Inauguration gala, so Beyonce gets no support from me on this one. The only thing I disagreed with Etta about was her comments about the President, but when you're mad, sometimes you can say some ignorant, dumb ass shit...being pissed off can make you regret shit for real. Personally, if I had to pick a modern artist to sing this classic song, I would have rathered Christina Aguilera sing the song over Beyonce, but that's just my twocents .

Beyonce gets on my nerves, but the girl deserves props for working that career to the maximum.

Etta's rant also didn't seem like a "joke" at all, but rather the fallout of controlled substances she'd perhaps recently enjoyed. confused

Etta James sounds a lot like Rick James. He was hatin' on a lot of people in the last years of his life too. I thought Etta had more class than that.

I didn't know that, and to tell you the truth, I haven't heard of Dolly Parton until the early eighties when my old gym teacher told these girls not to wear their t-shirts a certain way, exposing their breast, looking like Dolly Parton and people started laughing. Then she did a movie "9 to 5" along with the song. I became more familiar with her.
