Obama didn't sing it. He asked Beyonce to sing it but told her to keep it secret, then she blabbed about it the next day. That's why Etta mad.

But it was always going to be on TV and Radio and in the Press so what's the big deal? Who gives a F**K!

I suppose we all have our petty moments, but Ms. James should've shown a little class and expressed her thoughts among close friends if need be. She's ego trippin and comes off as a old and tried star trying to cling to time gone by when she was at the top.Tacky.

i can understand her anger (if that's really her) over her own song being performed at such historic event, but not only because she's alive and uninvited, but more importantly, because she has been a proper witness of history herself. so At Last would've naturally made much more sense coming from her.

that said, i don't think it was a matter of ego from bey's side, but rather a lack of better judgement. she had lots of [proper] platforms to plug that damn film afterall lol

Well, the "he's not 'my' president" comment pretty much defines why she was uninvited.
As to the choice of songs, I think it fit the situation.
I know people on here hate Beyoncé but Etta is out of place on this one. I'm sure these people would have done another song if everyone had have known she was going to act such a fool over it. What's done is done. There's really nothing that can be said at this point.

Yes, but I wonder did she always feel like that about Obama? Or is she dissing him only because she feels he dissed her by not inviting her to be a part of the Inaugural and having Beyonce perform her signature song? hmmm

IMO its quite hypocritical to talk about how great america is and its music and culture etc. which was one of Obamas points, and invite some plasticized version of american music to sing a classic that the person who made it know as an American classic should have sang. shame on the whole gig. its bad and say IMO just exactly what this whole election is about, plastic and fake. quite appropriate then that it did turn out to beyonce instead of the real thing.

Obviously Obama doesn't view Beyoncé in the same way that you do. Its a bit extreme to refer to him as hypocritical over such a subjective thing as this.
There's nothing fake about this election. You're just having a hard time adjusting to reality. He IS President. Learn to deal...that goes for Etta's ass, too.

I have a feeling if Beyonce did not have a huge hit record out, Obama would not have asked her to perform. He would have asked whomever was hot at that moment. It could have been worse. Obama could have asked Lil Wayne to perform for the first dance. lol eek

I think Etta was completely in the right in this. Petty? Some barely-talented, barely literate flavour-of-the-month sang her song, and she wasn't even asked! She has every right to be mad, and then some.

Beyonce's tacky ass is the one that needs to shut up and go away for a while. Those of us with functioning ears and respect for those who deserve it will be listening to Ms. James....boogie

Beyonce had no business being cast in the role as Etta James in the first place. She doesn't look like her and she doesn't sing like her. As far as Ms. James' other comments -- a tad tacky regarding the President since she knows how the entertainment/popularity game is played.

That's the irony. I don't know, it does look two-faced tho. lol

maybe Etta Would've liked to sing the song (who knows)HOWEVER it is wrong fro a woman of her age to be so rude to The President as well as Beyonce who if anything brought the song back to the forefront.

Only thing BEYONCE is guilty of is pushing herself to perform at the inauguration. neutral

She leaked it. That's the only point I find fault. Barack and Michelle told her to keep quiet but nah, she had to blab about it. lol She didn't say which song she was gonna do at that time but we kinda knew it would be "At Last". lol

Etta does lose a lot of points by dissing Obama, no question about it. Also, Glenn Miller (instrumentally) and Nat King Cole (vocally) recorded it before Etta did though hers is the standard, lol.

I AGREE!! Etta did not write the song so calling it hers should send her right into the court room by the original writer lol

I wonder why her son told the Daily News otherwise, in anycase the true colors of a person come to light in the end.All Beyonce can do is turn to SASHA FIERCE for a PEP talk lol

Well, such is life.... I don't take issue with Ms. Knowles wanting talent. I just think Ms. James angry outburst was unwarranted. That girl hasn't done a dang thing to her, Mr. Obama asked Ms. Knowles to perform. Maybe I should have chosen my word(s) more carefully. No, her statement wasn't petty, it was ignorant. Ms. James time has gone bye, bye, she's a household name to her generation. As someone said, Ms. Knowles is the flavor for the decade and soon her time shall pass. Hell, if President Obama had won the election in 1980 he would have had Gloria Gaynor up there sanging.
