3 Feb 1959 : The Day Music DIDN'T Die. 50 years ago Buddy Holly died aged 22 According to the song "American Pie" it was the day that music died.
Don McLean was an ass of course. Buddy's music and influence lived on and lives on. The Beatles and The Stones among many others were greatly influenced by Buddy Holly. Dying at the tender age of 22, Buddy had only been selling records for 3 years ! But boy what an impact he had on the music scene. Buddy himself was inspired by Elvis, a white kid playing black music. Many have pondered, including myself, many times what would have happened if he hadn't died, would he have been as big as Elvis or The Beatles / Stones ? But it is pointless, what's done is done, you can't change the passed. I discovered Buddy and his music when I was 11. He still has a special place in my (musical) heart. Cheers Buddy !

I don't know what Don McLean was thinking when he wrote that. Good music never "dies".
