I think she looks great! I don't know if Def Jam is going to let her go or not. Really, I think she should let Def Jam go. They really didn't do much to push the singles from her last CD and the first two single choices sucked. I'm very afraid she's going to end up like Janet if she doesn't cut them loose soon. There is so much more for her to do and like someone stated earlier, a slew of great producers that she has yet to work with.
Mariah's career is a long way from being anywhere near over. But, she definately needs to return to her roots and start recording more mature music instead of concentrating so much on that hip-hop mess. That's the problem with Janet and Madonna. They are over 40 but still prancing around doing all that "ooooing", "cooing" and heavy breathing like they are still in their 20's. They both look and sound absolutely ridiculous! I just don't want Mimi to wind up like that. Hopefully, someone on her management team will tell her it's time to start sounding her age. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! You don't? Welcome to the last 10 years of Mariah's career (Mimi excluded).

When you’re not 40 you look at it as old. Then when you become 40 or close to it, you realize you felt no different than when you were 30. You’ve outgrown some things but for the most part things don’t really change. Even though her voice isn’t the same, Mariah can still do different material but I admit I don’t want her to become a Vanessa Williams type singer and I heart Vanessa but I’m not ready for that. Heck, when Vanessa did I thought it was too early for her then and she was in her early 30s. But I really don’t think Mariah’s there yet and may never be especially since The Dream is supposedly already working on her next album. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Mariah can sing and she writes her own material. That should be enough for her to have a career. Part of what's wrong with the music industry today is public opinion. If you need for an artist to be 20, stunningly beautiful 24/7 and ultra thin then there is something wrong with YOU and not the artists who don't fall under that. The music biz would be in a lot better shape if people spent more time listening to music and less time looking at image.

I think the look often reflects the music. I guess what I meant about her career having longevity past age 40 if she went back to her classy look also implied she return to her mature sound. [Edited 2/2/09 14:29pm]

But if the industry judged Mariah on her output and albums she'd be gone. She lowers herself with the quality she is putting out, and im tired of hearing well the MIMI album was grea, NO IT WASNT, it sold plain and simple, but it had just as much filler than the rest of her cds, almost more. Mimi had one thing going, "We belong together" and its success, that was it, that caused the domino effect for that record. Take that song away, and the album would have had nothing to build off of. I said nothing of E of Mimi. The problem is the industry's judgment, so "if" the industry judged is a moot point. The FACTS are that in most cases writers last longer in the business than people who just sing, unless those singers rise to the top (like Luther) and their voices are in demand enough for them to remain useful. Regardless of the trends in music, the fact that Mariah writes her own stuff remains. If the material didn't decline in quality, she'd still be worth more than someone like Rihanna, who relies on writers. [Edited 2/2/09 16:38pm]

[Edited 2/2/09 16:38pm] True but she has lowered herself to a point where you go "do you really want to say you wrote this?" Truth be known, as much as it sickens me, things like playing and writing really arent going to matter, because the whole new generation for the most part is being brought up digital, no liner notes, nobody really cares who is on a record or who wrote it, it may matter to alot of us here, but on wide scale it doesnt matter to most people anymore, especially those that do the majority of the legal and illegal downloading. Mariah reminds me of Janet Jackson. Remember now she isn't in the Style of Vision Of Love . I think she looks o.k. for the Image she is creating.

They could care less what you SOLD, they wanna know what you will bring in, regardless if you write it, steal it, sample it, or beat the tunes out on a rock, they want the $$$ and fuck your talents. Mariah's last album though it sold a million plus it cost the label 20 times that to market, now we all know that Mariah is going to command alot of cash wherever she goes next or if she stays with def jam, and i got news for everyone, take a good look at Major League Baseball and how no one is getting signed and having to take what they can get, the same thing is gonna happen in the music business to these so called ICONS. My momma can be mistaken for white, Hispanic or Asian but she's a BLACK woman so I can see how people can misconstrue that. And that's all that matters at the end of the day, how well it sold. And as far as it's greatness, that's your opinion. I and a lot of other people thought "Mimi" was an exceptional album from beginning to end. Next to "Emotions", I thought it was her most consistant disc to date. I loved every song on the disc. So, I guess greatness is in the ears of the beholder. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley
