George Michael to appear on Eastenders? GEORGE IS HOT TO TROTT
DAILY STAR SUNDAY ABOVE: Is George bound for Albert Square? 25th January 2009 By Susan Hill POP superstar George Michael is ready for his wildest "gig" yet – with a stint on EastEnders. The 45-year-old singer has made no secret of the fact that he is a huge fan of the BBC1 soap and would love to appear in an episode. And now he's set to see his dreams come true after landing the chance of a cameo role on the show. Insiders have told the Daily Star Sunday that an upcoming storyline sees Albert Square's obsessed George Michael fan, Heather Trott (Cheryl Ferguson) discover that George is back in London following a tour. So she decides to go in search of her heart-throb and ropes in best friend Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) to help her find the pop legend. Then they end up on the shocked star's doorstep. Landing George will be a huge scoop for EastEnders, whose executive producer Diederick Santer has overseen a dramatic upturn in the show's fortunes. He's persuaded some of the soap's biggest ever stars to return since he took the top job on more than two years ago. An EastEnders insider told the Daily Star Sunday: "Heather is completely obsessed with George Michael. He is the love of her life. "So when she finds out he is back in London she decides that she has got to go to see him. "Everyone thinks she's a little crazy – but Shirley knows how much meeting George would mean to her tubby pal. Viewers will see the pair wait outside George's house for him to come home. "But what follows next is being kept closely under wraps." Heather's infatuation with George started when she was a teenager. And he is the only man never to have let the unlucky-in-love laundry girl down. Whenever she needs cheering up it's the former Wham! star who she turns to, by playing his greatest hits. When we contacted EastEnders last night their spokesman said they were unaware of any plans for his appearance. But he added intriguingly: "We would be delighted if he wanted to make an appearance – as would Heather!" Marrk, could you explain to me the appeal of Eastenders? It's a Soap opera set in the eastend of London, working class/aspiring middle class people, You're American, hopefully you know what a cockney sounds like (Worst case effort: Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins!) Basically it's a tiny little community in London. 30-40 houselholds, a pub, a launderette, a nightclub, a Fish & chip shop, a bookies, a massage parlour Etc. All the various types of inhabitants arguing with each other an being miserable. Over the 24 years it's ran, It's been successful in the UK regularly topping the TV ratings. (I believe BBC America run/ran it in the States) There's been murder, homphobia, race issues, prostitution, paedophilia, alchoholism, rape etc. all the cheery stuff week in, week out. with a few light-hearted moment thrown in. It's grim, but watchable (A lot of Brits will disagree), but i honestly have no clue what George is thinking. Though, They'll probably pull it off and boost their ratings for a night or two. if i had to sum it up. [Edited 1/30/09 13:27pm] |

I was watching some clips of Neighbours, that show seems good Neighbours was cool back when Kylie was in it, i stopped watching when she left, and that was a lifetime ago. Eastenders is grim and depressing, that's how it's supposed to be, and that's how we think of it too. why we Brits lap it up is beyond me. I suppose it's supposed to be portraying real life, but it doesnt represent where i live. I can't afford the pub night after night and i certainly don't walk into my neighbours house unnannounced, that shit is pretty dangerous! Like another long running UK soap, 'Coronation Street' (the longest running soap in the world) it's a UK institution, it'll never end. That's why i dislike them. I know i'll never see the end of them. so what's the point? |
