David Bowie's record label has refused to deny mounting speculation that the singer is working on a new album.

Reports about Bowie's recording future surfaced last week following a mysterious post on the micro-blogging website Twitter.

In the message ('tweet'), posted on January 5th, a user called David Bowie wrote: "Cheers from a snowy Berlin! Working on some new material!"

The post led to claims that Bowie had returned to the city in a bid to follow-up his 1970s Berlin Trilogy of albums - 'Low', 'Heroes' and 'Lodger'.

A spokesperson for the singer's record label told Festivalwise today (January 26th): “Am afraid our line is that we can neither confirm or deny.”

Bowie's last studio album, 'Reality', was released in 2003, but the singer was forced to abandon a world tour the following year due to a heart complaint.

Meanwhile, a report in today's Daily Star newspaper claims Bowie is in talks to perform at the Coachella festival in Los Angeles in April.

Organisers are said to have launched a new bid to attract the singer after discussions for Bowie to headline last year's event fell through.

What held me back? Expectations. Knowing the classics so well, there wasn't anything that I could hold onto. Kind of like going to a party but being a bit scared because you know absolutely nobody there

Based on the title itself I was expecting a depression fest. Picture Bowie's verion of Sade's Promise I'm not familiar enough with it yet to recite lyrics and couldn't tell you one now if I had to so I can't say yet that it isn't a depressing record. Maybe it is and maybe it's not. I haven't received it in its fullness. But then when you said that it was different from the rest, kind of like a stand out, I began listening to it as if it was his "Desire". Things just started making sense after that
