U2 new single not doing so well

check this!

http://musicgoss.com/?p=803

i kinda expected big things from the U2 album and releases. looks like music consumers do have ears and can tell that just coz theyre legends, they are capable of making painfully bad music.

i hate their new single! and if their new album sounds ANYTHING like this (it probs all sounds identicle) they have NO chance of me paying to purchase the CD.

What do YOU all think of the new U2 stuff?

Could be a lot of reasons why it has dropped off the iTunes top list..not necessarily just the quality of the track.

The fact that you can hear the track any time you want free of charge on the U2 website will have meant a lot of people didn't bother spending their cash on the track - many of them will wait for the album to come out rather than buy a track they will buy again in album form when they can hear it free anyway.

Not that I think the song is great myself, or that I think U2 have a divine right to sell well and be popular, I just think that people read way too much into these things.

And since when did iTunes customers become arbiters of good taste?! The iTunes top 100 is NOT a barometer of good music! biggrin
This is not an exit

U2 is more of an album band anyways (when it comes to sales).

Agreed - that's the case with me. In the old days, if you wanted to listen to a track before the album came out, you had two choices - wait for hours in hope that the radio show you were listening to would play it, or buy the single. So I bought The Fly, Miss Sarajevo, Discotheque, even Beautiful Day, all knowing that I would later buy the album that the song was on (admittedly, the b-sides helped too). When Vertigo came along, there was no real reason to do it. Now with Get Your Boots On, there's no reason to do it either - I can hear the song online anytime I want, and there are no unique tracks bundled in with the song to make me buy it.

Honestly, I'm happier this way - it saves me from spending money on duplicates of tracks.

I like U2 but i never go back to their old catalog that much. Their definately overrated studio wise but they do put on a great live show.
