Mariah had an amazing voice on her earlier records. Her vocal abilities have declined recently and she doesn't sound so good anymore. She's never been a terrific live perfomer so looking at her live shows on youtube isn't really a good way to judge her singing.
I think people who say she's overrated probably aren't familiar with her earlier work and are just going by her recent recordings.

WTH? She's got an 8 octave range or some ridiculous shit like that!

Say what you wan't about Whitney but Mariah to me is that White artist (even if she not White,whatever!!) That people like to say is better then the real talent. Vocal-wise Whitney kills her, I never knew why they compare the two Mariah is what beyonce is to me now- Love/Hate overrated talent.

Mariah's raw deal is the wack fluff that she ALWAYS sings these recent years(Touch My Body, Loverboy etc etc) but behind all that bullshit, she's a helluva song writer thats the reason why I root for her,,,,,Whitney could never come up with something like Sublte Invitation and Petals.

I love Whitney but all I see is "Clive Davis' puppet", I'll start taking notes when she drops the phony "diva" act and show us something from the gut.
