Different type of Artist. I love Aaliyah, but Beyonce would have sung her under the table. Aaliyah would have been very successful had she lived, but Beyonce was a Storm that was destined to happen.

unfortunately she wouldn't.

She may have been considered a 90s has been like Brandy, and Monica, who were more successful than her in their prime.

No. Her vocals were weak at best. Acting? Maybe.

Don't stone me, but I think Aaliyah is the better singer. She doesn't oversing songs to death. I'm looking at you, Bey.

I dont believe so...I would have believed that she would have got swept under by Timbaland....Beyonce would have still done the same thnig. It was the Ahanti's and Xtina and Brit she would have had to watch out 4.

Not bigger than Bey but I don't think she would have disappeared. Being the vocal opposite of Bey is refreshing for many. She was already beginning to break away from Tim musically and spoke of doing different things. I think her music would have been more interesting than Bey's.

Acting aside, with her diction and natural appeal I think she could have ventured into other projects successfully.

Aaliyah was beautiful and a trendsetter, though not much of a vocalist. Maybe I shouldn't go there, but Beyonce would probably take her ideas and run with it. She outshines every female artist right now, talent or no talent, dead or alive.

Not at all, but that isn't a bad thing.

Aaliyah would have continued to make edger R&B/pop and might have even ventured into electronica and rock. Who knows. She was much braver than Beyoncé which is not to stay she is Grace Jones (also, who knows how much of Aaliyah was the Timabaland and the other she worked with). If she continued with the kind of areas she said she wanted to go in (working with Trent Reznor or more likely less known electronic producers) she might have built up a strong fan base, but could have seen album sales fall off. If she continued doing catchy R&B/pop tunes like "Are You That Somebody" and "More Than A Woman", she might have did well.

Honestly, well never know but i think the reason Beyoncé still continues to do well is because she plays it so safe and down the middle. Little to no risk....obviously that is enough for consumers.

These are two totally different artist with different styles. The only comonality they share is race. I think that both are and were talented in their own right and would both be successful.

To be brutally honest, I think Aaliyah would have been sadly replaced by Beyonce because Aaliyah wasn't appreciated until her death. I can remember girls hating Aaliyah, calling her fake, saying she had a lazy eye, talking about whether her hair was real or not, and saying she had a sex change. Even when that R Kelly marriage issue went down, people were taking R Kelly's side and call her a tramp and talking about her parents. IMO, Aaliyah was more talented, she was graceful, smooth, soft spoken, and alluring but all of that would have been a turn off and Beyonce's down-home manner and her country-grammar would have perceived as more "real".

no. the thing that people forget is that the third album, prior to her death, was not moving well, the reason being, it was different, she was challenging and growing and the type of artist she was, was NOT one that would have been a constant mainstream fixture accpeted by everyone. I easily could have seen Aaliyah growing even more and changing sounds and direction that maybe the landscape of her genre would have been very different then it is now.

Yeah she was moving away from Timbaland first of all, his input on the third record was much much less than before, and some of the harder edged tracks on that album to me showed her going somewhere else than just the lazy 90's rb grooves that were prevelant in that decade. I still feel her last album "aaliyah" is one of the best RB records of the decade.

I think the sad irony of her death is the fact that they had "More THan A Woman" video filmed and it easily could have been a big hit. Very poppy sound much like "Are you...". However, her death was caused by the fact that she was coming back from the video for "Rock the Boat", which pissed me off when I heard it but it grew on me. I think if "More Than A Woman" was the second single, it would have enjoyed great commercial success.

she could have been a bigger actress but i think musically she was just always on the side of things. i don't recall her being something big until she died.

No way would Aaliyah be more popular than bey. If you look at others from that time (Missy, Ginuwine, Brandy, Monica, Usher, etc...) that were selling just aren't selling anymore.

Say It With me.....TIME IS NOT YOUR FRIEND!

Destiny's Child was gettin tired and would have started to bomb if they stayed together.

Bey's solo career is just the evolution and extension of the Destiny's Child fame. It's almost over. Another clunker CD like Sasha Fierce (really? Wow) and she's out of here.

That's true, I forgot about her movie career. She was pretty awesome in Queen of the Damned and was meant to be the star of Honey and also was set to appear in The Matrix as well.

Maybe she would've been a more successful movie star?

She had a natural acting ability (whereas Bey has NONE, even after many movies & coaching) - Aaliyah started off decent & would have continued to grow. Plus the camera loved the shit outta that girl, she could have had a nice acting career rose
