Madonna extends S&S-Tour next Summer?!

I find this strange. Why would she do that? I don't believe she does it "for her fans"... I fnd this most untypical for Madonna. Probably she has no other big project planned and seeks attention with revamping S&S.

So for once the rumours - or part of them - seem to be true.
MadonnaTribe has heard and can report that the Madonna team is indeed working on plans to hit the road again this Summer.
It won't be a proper new tour, but rather an extension of last year's show. It is currently planned to last two months - July and August - and it should mainly visit cities where the 2008 tour hasn't stopped. Also. as of now, this is shaped as a European tour only.
It is probably too early to say which countries will be included. Marseille in France made the headlines today with yet to be confirmed reports of Madonna performing at the Velodrome in mid-July.
The other stops that have been mentioned the most by the rumour mill so far have been Milan, Italy, where Madonna is rumoured to play San Siro's Meazza Stadium, and a short residency at Greenwhich's O2 Arena in London, England.
There is certainly a lot more in the making so it will be better to wait until an official announcement turns rumours into facts, but the most discussed topic in the Madonna online community in this beginning of 2009 seems indeed to be true: Madonna will extend the Sticky & Sweet tour with a revamped show next Summer.

the article says it's gonna be a Euopean tour. I think this could be ONE reason: She doesn't have any other public projects so she has to tour again to attract people's attention. Unless it will have some cool changes I'd prefer her working on the new album instead.

I like the idea of artists extending their tours and playing all the places that they skipped on the first leg.

"I'd prefer her working on the new album instead"

She shouldn't start working on a new album until late this year. But it would be cool if she released a new single this summer...maybe a new song recorded for a movie? A kickass dance tune to keep fans satisfied.

Let's wait and see for the Greatist Hits. Probably Beat Goes On will be included and promoted as a single?
Madonna HAS to do something musically, since it would be the first year since her debut without anything new (1988 and 2007 in some countries she charted in the single charts although those singles were not released everywhere)

Don't Madonna tours tend to be short because she gets bored easily. Even though she came back to Detroit, the setlist and all the buzz didn't do much for me (nor did the ticket price especially since I have no real job) so I skipped it. My advice, for what it's worth, is to get back into the studio or make a great new album for Live Nation....or heaven forbid, but some effort into supporting this one rather than touring (never works for her). I wonder if the lack of interest in making great videos (after only 2) for "Hard Candy", "American Life" and "COnfessions On A Dance Floor" and actually doing a lot of press for them to promote has anything to do with her sour relationship with Warners (after "Music" since after all she wanted to make "Impressive Instant" a single and they sort of stopped after "Girl"). I hope the next phase of Madonna's career brings out more great music videos for her albums...not just one or two great ones and then a bunch of maxi dance singles. Maybe the fact that "Miles Away", as great as it is didn't hit number one on the dance charts with all it's remixes, is a sign. No, Madonna not having another dance number one doesn't mean her career in the clubs is over, but is the cycle not getting boring....Pretty crazy. It's funny....if she released a strong ballad to radio, it would be different at this at this point for her, rather than making bit pop hits. I guess WB can be blamed for that, too. Aren't they trying to put "Miles Away", the original on AC stations?

I agree. I always admired Madonna for not touring hudred years with teh same tour. Every tour indeed was an artistic statement. I mean, she could not have done the Girlie Show for years because it was, what she felt and had to do in 1993...

Freddy DeMan foreced her to tour with the Girlie Show,,, she didn't want to tour after Erotica.

I guess she's touring because otherwise she wouldn't be doing anything notable this year (other than directing another movie) and because the record she just broke is about to taken by Celine Dion. I can imagine Live Nation making Madonna to keep that, and of course because it's $$$.

graeco, Madonna had several "nothing new" years already - I wouldn't count "Rescue Me" or "Another Suitcase In Another Hall" as something notable. Even The Confessions Tour CD/DVD was a bigger release than some of those singles.

that's an intersting theory... to keep her record. But where are all those Celin Dion fans? If it wasn't for the tours I would not know if she's still alive. Does she make new music??? I always despised her.

She released an "Ultimate Collection" to little fan faire (cause that shit of making more greatest hits sets is getting OLD). She might be done with her label at this point. I think her last pop album but was the one with "I Drove All Night" ("One Heart" or something?) but I also know that she released a French pop album with a very strange name ("One File, Four...something else"). It was in the midst of that Vegas deal but I never heard about it expect it popped up once or twice while I was on Allmusic.com. She doesn't even look like herself on the cover. Not sure what is going on with her.

Celine didn't tour for nearly a decade (I think) and she basically toured all through 2008 with dates in the US still scheduled, so no wonder she sold out, based on people who saw her live for the first time and wanted to hear her singing the Titanic ballad and her other 90s hits.

This is totally a live nation thing. I awlays thought it strange she only did one gig in England - and given the O2 / Livenation tie ins - i thought a run at the O2 was inevitable - it is a great venue that most artists really want to play at. I hope that if she does a lengthy run at the O2 - she will pass on the savings of performing in one place to her fans.

I like the idea though - perhaps freshen it up with a few new songs. I agree Beautiful Stranger would be great - as would express Yourself, Open Your Heart, maybe Holiday???

More than any of her previous tours (with the exception of Reinvention) this tour lends itself to this kind of revival. Ive often wondered if she did do a residency somewhere (ala prince at the O2, rather than Cher in Vegas) - could she do like prince did and rehearse loads of songs and vary the setlist each night. that would keep her interested each night!

She should definitely change up the setlist a little.Since this will be a fun summer tour, why not bring out "Causing A Commotion" and "Dress You Up"?

I thought Live Nation has tie ins with Wembley Stadium/Arena? Wouldn't it make more sense to do Wembley Arena, just like on RIT & CT? I know that's a smaller venue, but with the same show as last year, that would be a wiser choice.

I really can't see Madonna mixing things up in the setlist. The only possible stuff are putting back rehearsed songs like "Impressive Instant" or "Open Your Heart" and of course the rock numbers and "You Must Love Me" can be easily substituted with other songs, but the elaborate dance numbers will most likely stay.
