No disrespect to ther forms of house, since there are so many, but I'm into the soulful type of house. I also like Gospel House and some Jackin' type house. I've always been a fan of salsa-ish house music. LA INDIA and stuff like that. I love DJ LOUIE VEGA, DJ DAVID HARNESS, DJ AARON ROSS (LONDON), DJ JOJO FLORES, mostly all DJ's from FRANCE, they are funky, although I am partial to the San Francisco sound. I have some mixes of my own. I'm not a DJ. I mix with my computer. I'd like to know what you all think. How do you mix using just the computer? Is there a special program? I never look for house music on youtube because I think I'll never find anything. This song is the shizzz, I mixed this in on one of my cd's. Very few people know the feeling when you're dancing to house and you almost want to cry. Everyone is carrying on and singing at the top of their lungs to the song being played. Uhhhh. I've had many spiritual moments on the dance floor. I've met few people that have explained to me exactly the same thing that I feel when I'm on the dance floor. A lot of my friends think. "Oh Miguel goes dancing on Sunday nights." They think I go to pick up or to drink. When I get on the dance floor I don't get off until I'm ready to leave. People bring me water and it's all good. Oooooh don't get me started. This is one of my favorite songs of all time. PLease skip to 1:48 until the end. Everyone singing along to this song really gave me the chills. Keep on mixing with vinyl it's becoming a lost art.You should be proud. I never learned. I started mixing on a program called ACID. I love it because you can speed up songs without having the singer sound like a chipmunk (pitch control). I've even done some mashups. Well something happened because BELIEVE ME none of thist stuff was out there not too long ago! I go to youtube and check from time to time and I don't know if it was some contractual crap or if there was some kind of concerted effort to get house music up there but there has never been this much, certainly never my beloved DubBreak OH, also, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get me a copy of that track! I'm hoping someone can help me here. Back in the 90s I used to go to The Spike in LA and like many other underground house scenes, things started after hours into the early morning/afternoon. This guy, DJ Dan, used to play house sets on Sunday afternoon. You'd come from the blazing sunlight into the darkness where he was throwin down the grooves.
He recorded one of his sets for me and I have lost tabs on where the tape is, although I'm sure if I unpacked all my little boxes and stuff I'd find it. But I don't have time Anyway it was one of those positive message house tracks and it was sung by a male but I only remember this repetitive chorus when the song finally built up and took off into space: You can stand tall you can stand you can stand tall you can stand If that rings a bell for anyone, PLEASE clue me in. That song is the 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

The crazy thing is I've been looking for this song (Dubbreak) for FOREVER and it has been mixed into certain things, the most obvious being Madonna's vogue but one time I saw it in a record store and didn't have money and when I went back for it, it was gone Never found it since, in almost 20 years of searching
Now it's on youtube, thank God so I can at least hear it but seeing it as "Ellis D" brings me to another point. The cover of the Record was "LSD". Ellis D = LSD No damn wonder I could never find it! . IAintTheOne said: SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy said: Is that Sweet Pussy Pauline or am I thinking of something else? I had one foot on the ceiling and the other on the dresser and the muthafucka dove right in. He asked me: Am I hurtin you? Hurting me? Muthafucka, you are ticklin me! That vogue battle I talk about in the beginning was seriously the most righteously insane thing I've ever seen on a dancefloor. This was 90 or 91 and these 2 Houses from New York were in town and they gave the DJ a mix and then had their battle to it. At this point LA did not have a House but after these houses visited, one was established. I think it was called the House of Extravaganza. Anyway, my friend and I had dropped acid that night and had no idea there were 2 dance crews there. We were in the back watching Jane Child Sing her one hit wonder "Don't Want to Fall In Love". Imagine how shocked we were when we walked back there and saw her standing there at the keyboard. Talk about acid trip So we watch her perform and we go back out to the front of the club and I went one way and my friend went the other. I got caught up with this fat girl who was doing this bizarre ass dance and then my friend came and grabbed me and said Richard you NEED to come over and see this shit So he leads me to the center of the dancefloor where there was a circle of people and we got to the inner edge of the circle and these 2 dudes were vogueing. One of them I know his name was Jr, can't remember the other and they were from a House in New York, not sure which one though. So the sequence of music during this battle was Coco Steel And Lovebomb's "Feel It', then to Sweet Pussy Pauline (the song quoted above) and then into an extended mix of Dubbreak. to this day thinking about the fucking brilliant battle makes me want to weep. It was the most amazing awesome thing ever. Jr. was fucking out. of. control. The other dude was very good too, amazing but Jr. couldn't be topped. That thing where he convulsed to the floor and then came right back up as if he never went down and batting that whole time. I never developed any talent in this area but had I had training and all that I'm sure I could have been a master voguer I'm flexible enough I wish that shit was recorded because there really is no way to desrcibe it. Imagine 2 dudes like the first guy voguing in that third video but harder and way fiercer than that. Jr. was the fucking shit If memory serves me I do believe you might have witnessed The Xtravaganzas and probably House of Ninja or Pendavis OK, do you know why these houses were clear cross the country in LA? I mean until that time the only kind of vogue dance that we were exposed to was Madonna's video so imagine my absolute marvel to see it live and way way out of control! My reaction to that thing Jr. did is hilarious actually. Since I was bombed all out of my mind on acid, when he started shaking with his whole body and then fell backward on that guy's arms, I thought I was witnessing an overdose and it scared me. Like he was way high on drugs and was having a heart attack so when he hit flipped backward, hitting the floor and then instantly came right back up throwing down his vogue moves I was shocked even more that what he did was inentional. I've never seen a human being move that way It was spectacular! Did the houses do a nationwide tour? I mean why would they just show up with a tape in our club? just to party? The thing about the LA scene is not so much that that movement couldn't have taken off here because we have our share of the ethnic kids that would be into this but our nightlife was relegated to 2 main sections. Silverlake and West Hollywood. Silverlake is where all the leatherbars and sex clubs are located. West Hollywood is modelsville. Bitches posing but not posing and dancing So the vogue scene was more or less out of place, which made it all the more startling and amazing when I saw it in that dance club. I really wish that I could figure out how to google exactly why those houses were out here and I wish I had a chance to pay homage to Jr. directly. I wonder if willie Ninja was there that night. Jr. was battling a guy that I can see his face and some shots of willie remind me of him but I can't even say for sure. They were both out of control and I could live in that night for eternity There was this one club that was located in the heart of crack, prostitute, pimp, homeless hell. It was Club Maxx and it was a total dive. It was only open on Sundays starting in the early morning into the afternoon and it was fucking heaven! We used to go there and there would be dance battles. That was the closest I ever saw to the vogue culture, otherwise clubbing was leather or models . [Edited 1/28/09 17:35pm] 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740
