michael jackson-pre BAD appreciation thread

dang! ive quite fallen back in love with mike pre bad(before he went realy soulless and well.....silly)-after BAD i just cant listen to him-the sound of million dollar production taking away any of the musics"soul"

but good lawd-these songs are just AMAZING!

the songs have such an organic warm funky innocent feeling to them-

HUMAN NATURE

BILLIE JEAN

THRILLER

SHAKE YOUR BODY-my own fave http://uk.youtube.com/wat...PQmHwALAck

THE GIRL IS MINE-yep even that

I WANT YOU BACK .....the list is endless

ive never ever see the similarities between PRINCE and MIKE-prince is/was an amzing musician/songwriter

whereas mike was just an amzing performer/singer-the songs are just pop/soul perfection

LOVE EM!

You may as well jump on any MJ thread because they pretty much all degenerate into a 'He's Been Shit Since Thriller' epic mess.

There's been plenty of soulful moments from Mike since Thriller. Not least a lot of his last album. So we'll agree to disagree. wink

Yeah, his music did become less organic but I don't care about that at all.
Lots of artists use electronics (Prince, anyone?) so I don't understand why Mike always gets trashed for it yet seemingly no-one else does.

Earth Song I like, you can keep Heal The World. barf

Both very organic tracks as well. Funny that, eh? razz

organic-maybe i used the wrong term-prince to me uses electonics in a very organic way-he adds warmth to them-also we know its him writing/playing so it comes across maybe as a wee bit more soulful

but post bad-wasnt mike using session musicians he didnt know and every note was going thru a program 20 times to make it sound"perfect" yet in the process erasing any soul?

sheryl crow minded that she never spoke to her or the band during the whole tour!

Yay and nay for me. His vocal delivery still had plenty of soul and does so to this day.
And I see no harm in striving for perfection. No-one criticizes Kate Bush or Steely Dan for doing so.

Bad actually is my least favourite of his adult solo albums because it comes across as a little too contrived. His music became edgier and more experimental after and not so consciously commercial. I still like Bad, though. It's a good pop album.

I find that hard to believe as I've seen clips of him rehearsing his band onstage.
