but who the hell would want to grow up and end up like either of those guys? Both pummelled tragically into hell. Different methods maybe, but equally guilty of blatant stupidity in the choices they made in there careers. Ali should have quit after George and Zaire, MJ, i don't know. shit, i'd say Victory or Bad Tours at a push. You know what they say; MJ's music is like his plastic sugery. He should have stopped at Thriller. Who says that? don't you agree with me, Jesus? [Edited 1/25/09 18:15pm] "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. I'm going to have to go with Elvis, because he is dead, but there is still a total of 600,000 people that go to visit his grave at Graceland on a yearly basis. [Edited 1/25/09 23:12pm] Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

vainandy said: For years, when it comes to who the most famous person in the world is or was, it has always been debatable as to whether it is Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson. After seeing the inaugural the other day and especially the size of the crowd and their reaction at the parade, I think Barack Obama has them both beat.
What do you think? Who do you think the most famous person in the world is or was? . . . [Edited 1/22/09 8:18am] Right now, it's President Barack Obama. Almost the whole planet Earth backed him to win the White House because they hated former President George W. Bush. Now in the 1980's, it was Michael Jackson, mostly because he did tour Europe (something Elvis DIDN'T do) and the other continents. In the 1990's, you can acknowledge Michael Jordan because he was THE basketball icon everyone wanted to be like. As for best international sport icon in general, Muhammad Ali is still the man. Madonna gets a name check (for all the right AND wrong reasons) for being an international pop icon of the 1990's & 2000's. Same thing for Kylie Minogue (despite NEVER touring the USA).

He wouldn't be half the icon he is now if he had of stopped there. Sure he would of been seen in a better light, but he wouldn't be remembered as much or be in the class celebrity wise as he is now. He would probably be seen the way Prince is now.

I bet the only ones choosing Obama are Americans. Yes he is known in other countries besides America, of course. But he is definitley not more famous then Michael or Elvis. Actually tonnes of people.

He's been around since he was a kid. that's the point. He's around for 40 years now. But believe me, Obama is known on a world wide level for maybe ... a 16. I didn't know him in the summer of 2007, I believe... This discussion is senseless, still. there's no question who's more important right now. it's like asking who's the most famous German, Lagerfeld, Dietrich or Hitler? Bach? ![]()

True, but he might also have kept some of his sanity too...although he did seem damaged already as early as Thriller so.. I don't think any of his albums after Thriller ever measured up to it with Bad and Dangerous combined being the only ones kind of close...

Well thats the beauty of differing opinions, History/BOTDF is my favourte album by him, but thriller, besides a few songs, I couldn't really care less for. So I'm glad he made more albums after Thriller or else I would never of been a fan of his, well maybe the Jacksons, but theres no way I would of known the greatness of the Jacksons without being a fan of his first.

Man, I can't stand History. By most pop standards, it's fine, but by his it's just weak. He's so consumed by the media/paparazzi yet he caused so much of that media interest...I liked how Thriller was more about the music or the vocals (Human Nature is IMO his best ever song).
