Oh yeah, forgot about Elvis, but i never gave a damn about him myself, so no real opinion from me.
Darth Vader too. fictional, but i'd bet more recognized worldwide than anyone real. On a par with Jesus possibly? Who might be just as fictional for all anyone knows.

Yeah, but easy for a white man who is glorified by the media (even then), harder for a black man to come close, i tip Ali over Elvis. That man was loved universally, How many black folks rooted for Elvis? Pfft. I'll flip it. Evel Knieval. no bullshit.

There was a video about Japanese culture and it showed some kids were really into Elvis But you look at alot of Japanese and Korean pop stars, they tend to be really influence by Michael, notably the singer "Rain" "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. Perhaps the greatest American phenomenon ever. But if we're talking about worldwide figures who are known globally Elvis can't hang with Michael Jackson, NOR the Beatles.

Neither Elvis nor MJ has done anything noteworthy in years.
They're both dead! (One literally, the other figuratively.) Of the three choices provided, anyone that can't see that President Obama currently has "the most famous" crown on an international level...

I dont think it would be a stretch to say that President Obama is probably the most popular and famous person in the world today.

Certainly, Obama is, not only the most famous, but most important. I have never been prouder of the US than I have been since the election.
As far as Elvis and MJ, it seems to be popular to trot out MJ's sales as the end all be all of his fame, but at least in Britain (and I believe in the US as well but can't find the stats right now) Elvis sold more albums in 2008. Elvis at #19 with 578,900 and MJ at number #21 with 568,172 . Not bad for a guy who has been dead since 1977. Any way, all hail the new Pres in town!!! Go Barack!!

Ok I can't speak for all non-Americans, but in Australia Elvis is definitley the phenomenom that he was in America. Obama might be really famous now but hes still not on Michaels and Elvis level. Neither is Muhammad. I'm probably thinking of this more in the iconic sense. No man is as Iconic as MJ and Elvis.

Elvis is the one who most closely lived up to his hype. Hipster doofuses would appoint Obama King of the World if they could. That sort of popularity is questionable.

Right now President Obama is the most famous and well known person in the entire world. Way over MJ and Elvis.

After seeing the inaugural the other day and especially the size of the crowd and their reaction at the parade, I think Barack Obama has them both beat.
What do you think? Who do you think the most famous person in the world is or was? . . . [Edited 1/22/09 8:18am] Jesus Christ He's also had a 2000 year lead on Elvis, MJ and Obama. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

but who the hell would want to grow up and end up like either of those guys? Both pummelled tragically into hell. Different methods maybe, but equally guilty of blatant stupidity in the choices they made in there careers. Ali should have quit after George and Zaire, MJ, i don't know. shit, i'd say Victory or Bad Tours at a push. You know what they say; MJ's music is like his plastic sugery. He should have stopped at Thriller.
