This has to be the most flawless album I've ever heard..... Most great albums will usually have at least one song that's not as good as the rest, but this one doesn't have a single song that weighs it down. Every song on it is great. I have not heard a more consistently brilliant album. I didn't say it's the best. I said it's the most flawless. (Will change thread title to make it more clear). “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

It was kinda weak. Came off two much like a Prince rip-off. I didn't bother to replace the vinyl with a CD copy. test

Is Sign Your Name On It? George Michael did a good cover version of it.

There are a precious few flawless albums. Even some of the greatest albums of all time -- Sign O' The Times being my most prominent example -- have flaws. Sometimes it's those flaws that make them great albums.
The nominees for "flawless albums" that I can think of: and, yes . . . Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

The nominees for "flawless albums" that I can think of: and, yes . . . Purple Rain is the closest Prince ever came to a perfect album, but it doesn't quite make it as there are some songs on there which are very good, but not great (Baby I'm A Star, Computer Blue). SOTT is nowhere near being perfect, even though it's got some of his best work on it. The 80s men had a good year in 1987. P put out SOTT, TTD put out Hardline and George Michael put out Faith. Only Michael let things down with Bad. A kiddies album that sold on hype and videos. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Yes, that's on it. And as usual with George, his cover version added nothing to the song and his vocals were bland in comparison. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

As I said above, I agree, SOTT has its flaws, which keep it from being flawless, but they fit into the overall patchwork of the album, which was intended to be a patchwork in and of itself. Its brilliance is that it does manage to be mostly cohesive, because it is held together by Prince's ability to incorporate those elements into his own "sound." And as for PR, I consider it flawless not because every song is a five-star song, but because every song fits in its place in the context of the entire album. Actually, I think "Computer Blue" is a great song, and the weakest links in the album are I Would Die 4 U and Baby, I'm A Star, which still fit right and hold that "2d side" together. It plays almost like an opera. But that's just my opinion. You're right. '87 was a great time for great albums overall. [Edited 1/22/09 9:25am] Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

[Edited 1/22/09 9:25am] I've always been of the view that SOTT would have made a jaw dropping single album. I think the first side particularly could have used some editing, but obviously, it's still great. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I couldn't argue with anything you said. I think the 1st side is flawless, but that's the brilliance of the album, you can look at it any number of ways, neither of which is wrong, and still come away thinking it's great. Particularly as I get the utter cunt ripped out of me for owning it That's a bad reason not to listen to it. You should not be governed by your friends' ignorance. You should educate them instead. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”
