I found a copy of Maxwell's 2001 album 'Now' for 25 cents I picked it up because I saw some people here listening to it in those "what are you listening to" threads, but I don't really know who specifically to ask (maybe AlexdeParis) What are your favorite songs on this?

I found a promo copy for about the same price in a thrift store a few years ago.
Actually it could've been fifty cents or a dollar, I don't remember. Either way, it's not uncommon. I thought it was going to feature slightly different versions of some of the songs on the album, instead it was exactly what he officially released in 2001. Now I have two copies of the album in my collection.

Other than the 3 singles, "Get To Know Ya", "Lifetime" and "This Woman's Work", other faves are "Now At The Party","No One" and "Changed".
I like this album a lot, many people here found it boring compared to his first 2 studio albums.

I like ALL of his albums....but "Urban Hang Suite" and "Embrya" are classics.

"Now" is easily the weakest of his three albums. In some ways, it's just plain bland compared to the masterpiece of "Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite" and the experimental nature of "Embrya"
That said, my favorite songs on the album would be: * Lifetime * Noone * For Lovers Only * This Woman's Work * Get To Know Ya (in that order)

This album is very good. There was an original album of Now that leaked
before this copy came out. I have both. The original has a good remix of fortunate from the life soundtrack. It shouldn't be surprising that you can find it next to nothing since the album is going on ten years old. [Edited 2/7/09 8:26am] Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

"Now" is his 2nd best album. The jams on there are "Get To Know Ya" - "Lifetime" - "W/As My Girl" - "Changed" - "NoOne" - "Temporary Nite". "This Woman's Work" is cool, but he rocks it much better on his live CD that came out 4 years earlier. For the life of me I have no idea why he didn't put "Fortunate" on "Now" since it was his biggest ever hit. makes no sense. nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

The first pressings of "Now" had "Fortunate" on it, my copy doesn't.
I got the song later on though.

I got the song later on though. Anybody know why it was removed? I remember people going out and buying "Embrya" after hearing "Fortunate," thinking it was on that album. nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

No, just one song missing, which was "Fortunate". Maybe it had to do with R. Kelly who wrote the song.

In a store? That's crazy! I know that places like Amazon and Ebay have very popular CDs for for penny but you go to pay for the shipping, which brings it up to about $3 (actually, probably closer to $5 on Ebay bare minimum...I haven't bought anything from Ebay in a while).

No, just one song missing, which was "Fortunate". Maybe it had to do with R. Kelly who wrote the song. Songs from soundtracks almost never get added to an artist's album. That's usually how they do it. I think it could have something to do with the company affiliated with the film, or it could just be that the artist may feel like, "Well, I've already done that, it's time for something new." Or maybe they feel like the song doesn't tie into the rest of the themes on the album.....which is probably why it was ommitted in the first place - the "Now" album is very sad and overall quite moody, whereas "Fortunate" is all about, "I'm blessed the day that I found you" and all that happy stuff.

I thought 'Fortunate' was gonna be included on "Now", although I still bought the album anyway & the "Life" soundtrack for 'Fortunate'.

Yea, I've noticed that too. Although 'Do U Feel Me' (from the American Gangster OST) is a bonus track on the UK release for Anthony Hamilton's new CD.

I've got the single.
Two different versions actually: the American one, which just has "Fortunate" and "Submerge Within The Light" and the Australian one which has an edit of "Fortunate" and some other mixes.... I think "Matrimony Maybe You (Or Maybe Not") is one of them..... yeah it is, I just had a look.

i never listen to it. i have it and i can't say i hate any of the songs
but it's just far too bland to return to imo. i still love embrya most. i used to like urban hangsuite a whole lot as well but since i f*cked the wrong person to it multiple times it's just tainted as all hell, lol. i can't listen to it anymore without seeing that douchebag's face. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
