The other side of Motown - Download now!

On tomorrow's (Friday, Jan. 16th) edition of Midnight Soulstice, we invite you to celebrate Motown's 50th birthday with us! Yes, we've heard all of Motown's greatest hits, and so have you. For that reason, we want to introduce you to a different side of what is possibly the greatest label in the history of Soul music.
We are not going to play the evergreens by Marvin, Stevie, Smokey, The Temps, The Marvelettes, etc.
Instead, we are going to dig out some of the lesser known, more experimental releases. Of course it's hard to find tracks that no one has heard before, coming from a label like Motown. But we still tried our best to surprise you and present to you .. The Other Side of Motown!

Tune in from 11 pm - 1 am on W-RIR (Radio from Richmond, Virginia) on the live stream on www.wrir.org

UPDATE: Download the show here: http://wrir.org/x/modules...oryid=8810

I love both sides of Motown, and I would love a show focused on the lesser heard!

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

The Undisputed Truth will likely be discussed. They had some interesting funk outside of "Smiling Faces". I caught them on Soul Train in those white Afros and stuff, lol.

Madlib did a really good Motown mix a couple years ago with some of the acts we are anticipating to crop up here.

Yeah, like I wrote above, it's impossible to do a show will all unknown material. Most likely y'all know a lot of the tracks. But I'm sure we'll be able to squeeze in some Motown artists that are completely unknown and went absolutely unrecognized. And we'll definitely focus more on the funky side of Motown, starting with the late 1960s and going into the mid- and late 1970s. I think y'all will dig it.

Well, OK. What about some white guys on Motown?

Rare Earth were pretty funky brothers who weren't brothas. I dug that cover of the Tempts Losing You. That was bad ass.

And they did a version of Hum Along and Dance. cool

Rare Earth are pretty cool. I played Puzzle, which is a white group as well. There' so much good music on Motown, you can't play it all in just 2 hs. smile

Did they also cover the The Temps "Get Ready" too? I know its a white band that covered that song, but I don't know the name of the group (surprisingly)...I hear it on the oldies station sometimes.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
