My thoughts exactly. | |

Sam Cooke's version is, IMO, still the best version. I would say Sananda/TTD, Otis, Anthony Hamilton, Al Green and Solo's covers are great too. Billy Preston & Aaron Neville both covered the song and their versions of "A Change Is Gonna Come" are worth checking out too

Beth Hart is amazing...
There are a few clips of her doing this song on YouTube. I encourage everyone to give this woman a listen. She just may be the best singer on the planet. At the very least, she's one of the most under appreciated. Phenomenal.

It's Sam's song. Plain and simple.
I never liked Otis's version. He trivialised it. [Edited 1/22/09 7:22am] “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

A bit screechy in parts but it turned out I wasn't as annoyed as I thought i'd be. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
