Is Beyonce really singing for Obama's First Dance?

Is she singing at the Inaugural First Dance between Barack and Michelle? Does anyone know what she will sing? Diva? Single Ladies?

I knew she'd find a way to get in on this but the first dance... neutral

Lol I just posted this in another thread. To answer your question, yes she is.

Beyonce to sing for Obamas' first inaugural dance

WASHINGTON (AP) — Beyonce will sing the first song that Barack and Michelle Obama dance to on inauguration night.
The name of the song? That's still secret.
But Beyonce is part of the star-studded lineup at the official Neighborhood Ball that will be televised on ABC, along with her husband Jay-Z, will.i.am, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Shakira, Sting, Faith Hill, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder and Maroon 5.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee said Thursday that presenters at the ball will include Denzel Washington, Jessica Alba, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ray Romano, Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah and Kate Walsh.

Maybe she'll sing Diva lol But I would guess she would sing something other than one of her own songs. Or maybe it will be a completely new song that she, ahem "wrote"...which of course will be put up on Itunes later for download.

I really don't think there is an escape. Perhaps I should just succumb.

She continues to creep into my radar despite my best efforts. The morning news, award shows, The Kennedy Center Honors, tv commercials, drug store shelves, newstands, my Tina Turner concert experience... resistance may indeed be futile. And yet, I try to hold on to some sort of existence without her. So far she hasn't attempted to write a book yet. The world of literature is safe. For now.

LOL! Beyonce is the BORG!

As for writing a book...that will come maybe 2 or 3 years from now...after she "retires" neutral

Oh well, they could've done worse, they could have picked Rihanna to sing for their first dance lol!

Who else would you guys have liked to have sing for their first dance instead of Beyonce? For me, I would have went with someone who can really sing--not that Beyonce cant sing--she can, but I'm talking about someone who can really sing, who has dynamite vocals:

Barbara Striesand
Gladys Knight
Whitney Houston
Jennifer Hudson
Celine Dion
Andrea Bocelli
Leona Lewis
Tamyra Gray
Denyce Graves

To name a few...any one of them would've been great to sing the 1st dance.

I don't know. I think it depends on the material. I wouldn't mind an instrumental performance if possible. If not, I would have gone with Babs or Renee Fleming, Diane Schuur, Audra McDonald, or Kathleen Battle. Maybe even Cassandra Wilson. How's Nancy sounding these days?

Oh yeah I forgot about Audra and Kathleen! They would've been great as well. And an instrumental piece would be really nice too.

Stevie should have a Presidential pass to sing what he likes.

I'm gonna break out the DVD again and watch Beyonce get owned by Jennifer tonite in 'Dreamgirls', just to cheer myself up.

I don't hate Beyonce, but she is throwing herself at everything and getting on my nerves in the process, she's good (not great) live so she might do a good job. But that is all.

I am also disappointed in this choice. I would expect a more sophisticated choice, and assumed we would see something like Kathleen Battle. If he wanted to go contemporary, I would even see Anita Baker, Rachelle Ferrell, Michael McDonald as great options. Is it typical for the first song to be a love song? 'At last' somehow, doesn't seem so appropriate for this occasion.

I was arguing with a friend about this yesterday and I told him the SAME thing: Anita Baker and Rachelle Ferrell woulda be GREAT, classy choices. I'm kinda pissed about this. confused neutral

Yes, I heard she is singing Etta James "At Last" for the Obama's first dance:
Here's an updated article:

Beyonce goes to Washington — on the train

Singer, Jonas Brothers among celebs poised to party at Obama inaugural

The Scoop
WASHINGTON - Beyonce, like many of us, chose to take the Amtrak from New York to Washington to attend the Inauguration celebrations. The singer wasn't taking interviews on the train Friday, unfortunately, but her presence was an apropos kick-off to the most star-studded weekend D.C. has ever seen.

Beyonce, aka Sasha Fierce, will sing “At Last” for the Obama's first dance at the Neighborhood ball on Inauguration night. Mariah Carey will also perform at that ball. The Jonas Brothers are here (and at my hotel, no less) as is Gabrielle Union, who is singing at the BET Honors Concert Saturday night.

Also spotted Friday: former Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn. Stopped by his Capitol Hill burger restaurant, Good Stuff Eatery, which is playing host to Tuesday night's Burger Ball, natch. If you can't make it there Tuesday night, he assured me his Obamaburger will remain on the menu post-inauguration.

Friday-night party circuit
It was a low-key evening as everyone seems to be pacing for a long week. There were a few events to be had, though.

BET CEO Debra Lee held a cocktail event at her house. Grey Goose pitched in for the drinks, and Magic Johnson, Gabrielle Union, Samuel L. Jackson, Monica and Star Jones were all there. After the BET party, Star headed over to the ever-fabulous Café Milano in Georgetown. Good timing on Star's part: Bo Derek, the other big Hollywood type at the event, got there about an hour before, leaving Star to work the red carpet largely on her own.

Saturday is a night of party hopping. One of the great things about getting here early is having the chance to swing by some of the very unofficial events that attract an eclectic collection of politicos and Hollywood-types alike. Check in for updates!

God, WHY? confused

Someone needs to make that overexposed, overhyped woman go away. Like now. Preferably before the Ball so they can find a singer deserving of the exposure and honour.
