I never had a problem with vulgar or sleazy. Actually, the more vulgar or sleazy something is, the more I like it. However, I do have a problem with dull and shit hop is definately dull. It's as slow and dull as a damn opera.
Yeah, shit hop is both vulgar and sleazy but there ain't enough vulgar and sleazy in the world to stop it from being dull. . . . [Edited 1/14/09 8:07am] Andy is a four letter word.

In any case, the vulgar sleezy stuff is what I wanna hear in strip clubs. Well, it's certainly slow tempo enough for the strippers to slowly peel each article of clothing off. Maybe that's people's attraction to it because it certainly isn't entertaining in any other way. Andy is a four letter word.

It depends on what you call rap. Most of the stuff you hear on the radio now a days is total crap. Most of it is vulgar and sleazy although I am noticing a trend of them trying to clean it up some.
Common Lupe Fiasco T-Pain are some where it isn't so Nasty. Although AMG's Bitch Betta Have My Money is classic! " I often watch you, the way you whore yourself. You are so beautiful, the way you flirt and tease. How I wish you would flirt with me." --- MeShell N'degeOchello

Both. Hip hop is something else.

It can be both, just like any other form of music. R and B can be just as sleezy as rap, maybe not as vulgar. But to me, it is part of the appeal. I am not a huge fan of rappers now, except for a few. I listen to a lot of Tupac, who could be both vulgar AND sleezy, but it was his way of describing street life.
For the people who don't like rap music, there is vulgarity and sleeziness in pop, country, heavy metal, and other forms of music as well, so to turn up your nose at rap for it's vulgarness and sleeziness is not a reason to not like rap, just an excuse.

Oh never mind. Why YOU go around watching a female stripper? test

I think to call any genre of music "vulgar" or "sleazy" is a gross generalization.
R&B was called "wild jungle music", and the religious right scared people into believing it would cause "race mixing". Rock & Roll was thought to cause hysteria and sexual deviancy. It was stupid then, and it's stupid now!!! JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

Well yeah, of course rap is vulgar. A lot of it is, but not all. It depends on the artists you listen too. I like rap (mostly old school) but it depends. I don't mind some vulgarity, I am a Prince fan afterall lol, but if I'm listening to a song where most of the lyrics consists of "N***a, F***, D***, B****, Ho, T**s, P****,etc." I immideatly turn it off . Like the other day I was listening to this Three Six Mafia song because I heard it had sampled MJ's "Lady In My Life" and me being a big fan of his, I wanted to hear it. Who told me to listen to that? lol. The song title was "Porno Movie" so I should have known better but I couldn't even get through more than a minute of that song before I turned it off. I felt like I needed a good cleansing after listening to that song. I'm not a prude, but damn lol, that was just too much. The older I get, the more I get turned off by that stuff. I just can't listen to too much of that. Again it depends on the artist you listen too. Not all rap artists are vulgur or sleazy, but it would be a lie to say that a lot of them aren't. At least in mainstream rap this is the case.
Like Paisley said, you have to be selective in what and who you listen to. "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

R&B was called "wild jungle music", and the religious right scared people into believing it would cause "race mixing". R&B (especially funk) was wild jungle music and that's what made it so great. The problem with shit hop is it's no longer wild jungle music. Where's the drum beating and ass shaking? There ain't no drums on it and you sure as hell can't shake no ass in the jungle to that slow ass shit. As for the race mixing part, they were wrong about R&B and funk because the majority of the audience was black. But it would definately apply to shit hop. White kids are the main consumers of it and they slowed that shit down slower than the whitest of classical music. If it weren't for the profanity, Lawrence Welk would have loved shit hop. . . . It depends on what would you define "rap" as "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
