Initial thoughts:
1. Metallica will remain popular forever in spite of Lars Ulrich. 2. This just in: Lil' Wayne, Bey, JT, Pink seemingly have staying power. 3. Miles Davis converted 2,500 new souls to jazz last week. 4. Notorious is doing what it was intended to do: drive up Biggie's catalogue sales. 5. A Charlie Brown Christmas will live on long after we're gone. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

In fact, Michael has THREE albums in the Top 200.
As usual, Prince's catalog sales are piss poor. [Edited 1/16/09 16:57pm]

AC/DC and Elvis have more than two albums themselves, lol.
Prince's ain't even that poor: 1.5 million versus Thriller's 1.7 million, sounds like he's doing decent to me. Speaking of piss-poor: Essential's at 350K. [Edited 1/16/09 17:01pm]

[Edited 1/16/09 17:01pm] Thriller's sales only take into account the Special Edition (2001) and Thriller 25. 1.7 million is more than impressive. The Essential is at 375k and will clear 400k easily over the upcoming months. Not bad for double CD that was released to zero promotion. Number Ones is also on track to hit 2 million by years end. The CD had its best year in catalog sales last year.

Just wait until he releases "Thriller" 30th 40th and 50th editions, which will feature the hot person of the day doing a remix with an old "recording". By then there still will be no new Michael music just more rumours. The catalog chart is cool, and its good to see your work still in demand, however if youve done nothing or almost nothing since to "grow" then you are doing nothing but "treading water" "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

As usual, Prince's catalog sales are piss poor. Indeed, shame on Prince for not flooding the market with catalog stuff and still recording new music. I don't understand why he couldn't be as almighty as MJ. Does anyone know the catalog sales of Purple Rain and when it last appeared on the catalog chart?

Of course that's because MJ fans these days only get news of Number Ones appearing on the catalog chart or MJ and his kids appearing in veils. Maybe we shouldn't be that hard on them. And no, those remastered Prince albums wouldn't sell that much, 1999, Purple Rain and maybe SOTT would, but it would only be mostly hardcore fans buying them again.

Does anyone know the catalog sales of Purple Rain and when it last appeared on the catalog chart? it was #29 last week on the catalog charts and last week #9 on soundtrack charts this week fell to #30 on soundtrack charts. Dont worry about MJ i heard he is busy he will be touring soon with gary glitter they intend to tap into a whole new audience. asg, do you have more catalog numbers for other Prince albums? What about Madonna ones? Thanks in advance!

Prince v. MJ? What is this, Tiger Beat?
MJ fans, why bother? MJ has nothing to prove to anyone. MJ stands head and shoulders above just about everyone, despite all that's happened. Plus, Thriller is inching closer to 30 years of age. Let it go. Prince fans, don't bait, and don't take the bait. The fact that Prince's legacy rivals, equals or exceeds MJ's has little to do with album sales, and some of MJ's myopic fans still don't get that. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

As usual, Prince's catalog sales are piss poor. [Edited 1/16/09 16:57pm] ----- Prince's catalogue sales are poor in your imagination. He is doing pretty good and would be doing better if WB would put some of his catalogue back in print and update the sound.

So of you fuck wads are forgetting that PR was in the Billboard top 30 when P was out tourning in 2004. Once again when ever he goes out on the road he gets a bump in sales. We know the MJ will never be going out on the road so no chance of MJ getting a bump. [Edited 1/20/09 6:35am]

Comparing MJ and Prince is like comparing apples to oranges. P was never and will never be as popular as MJ. I don't see why MJ fans don't see that P was not making an effort to be clean cut so he had no chance of having the mass popularity of MJ.

What brought on the spike in sales for The Go-Gos and Elvis Costello? It just seems sort of random that these albums would just drop into the upper reaches of the Catalog Chart. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.
