I doubt that'll happen. I'm still doubting that. They'll just induct all the '50s, '60s and '70s artists they "forgot" so to speak. rolleyes With Wanda Jackson's induction, you can see they're still putting in actual LEGENDS in there, lol.

we debate alot on the Org about which current artist today is real and who's not since the music business has changed so much, so it will be interesting 25 years from now to see who is worthy of such honor.

These sites should be good to look into. You could search for her music on YouTube if it's there.

CONFIRMED
Wanda Jackson - announced Friday
Metallica - announced Tuesday

STILL TO BE CONFIRMED
The Stooges (likely)
Jeff Beck (also likely)
Run DMC (also likely...I think)
Little Anthony & the Imperials (also maybe likely)
Bobby Womack (I thought he WAS likely, it'd be great if he did get in then again, who knows?)
CHIC (not getting in)
WAR (not getting in either)
[Edited 1/13/09 20:37pm]

Seems to me that Wanda Jackson should have been inducted under the Influences section, as opposed to a nominated act.
Same way they did Mahalia Jackson, Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf and others.
The inclusion of Metallica was expected.
With two down and three to go, it will be interesting to see whom the other three are out of the seven left.

I don't know, since she came in the '50s and they were inducting them first, should've been in a long time ago, lol. Anyway, who do you think will be the last three to be included in the induction? wink

Her alleged selection (leaked by her handlers it seems) was a surprise -
Metallica wasn't, I am thinking The Stooges, that would have been a lock if Ashton had passed before the ballots were turned in, hopefully Jeff Beck, I was rooting for Bobby Womack too, I can't predict after Jackson. LOL

They ain't EVER gonna get in, they always gotta find themselves in bullshit every year they're picked for induction choice. confused I'd be shocked (and pleased) if they get in but I doubt it.

I'm very disappointed to see Metallica get in, especially over some of the other nominees.

Their biggest success in the last decade was being whiny bitches.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Yeah, they're whiny-ass bitches, but no one can deny their talent and influence on hundreds of bands. If you're an admirer of Metal, I'm sure you would know. Anyway, their "Death Magnetic" album is such a departure from their last 3 shitty releases. Finally a Metallica album I can listen to all the way through without skipping any tracks... their best since "And Justice For All".

Run-DMC, Metallica lead list of 2009 Rock Hall
27 minutes ago

NEW YORK (AP) — Run-DMC once hailed themselves as the Kings of Rock, so it's fitting that the pioneering rappers have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Run-DMC joins the heavy metal band Metallica, guitarist Jeff Beck, soul singer Bobby Womack and doo-wop group Little Anthony and the Imperials as this year's inductee class.

Rockabilly singer Wanda Jackson gets a nod for the early influence category, and the sidemen inductees are session musician Spooner Oldham and two of Elvis Presley's musicians — drummer D.J. Fontana and bassist Bill Black.

The induction ceremony will be held in Cleveland — where the Rock Hall is based — on April 4.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to induct Metallica, Run-D.M.C., Bobby Womack, Jeff Beck and others in April 4 Cleveland ceremony

by John Soeder / Plain Dealer Pop Music Critic

Wednesday January 14, 2009, 2:00 PM

It has all the makings of a night to remember for local music lovers, not to mention an unforgettable homecoming for Bobby Womack.

The Cleveland-born R&B artist will be enshrined alongside heavy-metal band Metallica, hip-hop trio Run-D.M.C., rock 'n' roll guitarist Jeff Beck and doo-wop favorites Little Anthony and the Imperials during the 24th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony Saturday, April 4, at Public Hall.

"I'm very happy about being able to . . . represent Cleveland on that level," Womack said, reached by phone at home in Los Angeles.

Honorees were announced Wednesday by the New York City-based Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, which oversees the induction process. Womack had been waiting for a call from the Rock Hall ever since he took part in a 1994 topping-off ceremony at the museum, still under construction at the time.

"It got to a point [where] I said, 'I'm chasing a rainbow that I never started out chasing,' " said Womack, 64.

"It's a thrill for me, because having traveled around the world for so many years, fans ask me, 'What about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?' It was very important to them. What was important to me [was] being able to reach them spiritually, most of my life, and have the response back from them."

In addition to the performer inductees, rockabilly singer Wanda Jackson will be honored as an early influence. The hall also will usher in three sidemen: songwriter-keyboardist Spooner Oldham and two members of Elvis Presley's band, drummer D.J. Fontana and the late bassist Bill Black.

"I love it when it's this broad and this eclectic," Rock Hall President and CEO Terry Stewart said of the Class of 2009.

"It's a great representation of the kind of music that we celebrate here," Stewart said. "And hopefully, it makes people understand that it's not a narrow band of artists and stereotypes of folks with guitars. It's a lot more than that."

The cable-television network Fuse will broadcast the induction ceremony live on TV and online.

Before the inductions, honorees and 1,000 or so other VIP guests will gather for a black-tie dinner, with tables set up on the main floor of Public Hall. Later in the evening, fans will be seated in the balcony to witness the actual ceremony. They can look forward to a long night of performances, acceptance speeches and celebrity presenters who have not been announced yet.

The Rock Hall is planning an entire week of festivities leading up to the induction ceremony, including the unveiling of a Bruce Springsteen exhibition at the museum on Wednesday, April 1, and a free concert, possibly featuring previous inductees, booked for Thursday, April 2, at Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center.

This year's incoming class has a few noteworthy twists.

Guitarist Dave Mustaine, a founding member of Metallica, will not be inducted with the rest of the band. After leaving Metallica in 1983, Mustaine formed another heavy-metal group, Megadeth.

The Rock Hall conferred with Metallica about which band members to induct, said Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

"It was coming from their end, who they felt should be inducted, who really was in the band for the length of time that had the biggest influence on their history," Peresman said.

Run-D.M.C. is only the second hip-hop act to get into the Rock Hall, behind 2007 inductees Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

The Class of 2009 includes a couple of two-time inductees, too. Beck, inducted in 1992 as a member of the Yardbirds, is being inducted again for his solo achievements. And Sammy Strain of Little Anthony and the Imperials was inducted in 2005 as a member of the O'Jays.

In another curious subplot, Jackson is being inducted as an early influence, although she was nominated as a performer on the ballot.

When Jackson didn't receive enough votes to get in as a performer, she was singled out for induction by a committee that handpicks early-influence honorees, Peresman said.

Sidemen inductees are selected by a separate committee.

Artists become eligible for nomination 25 years after the release of their first recording.

Nominees on the latest ballot who were passed over include Chic, the Stooges and War. Ballots were sent to an international pool of 600 voters, including record company executives and previous inductees.

For 21 of the past 23 years, the inductions have been held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in Manhattan. Cleveland hosted the big night just once before, at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel in 1997, when the honorees included the Jackson Five, the Bee Gees and Crosby, Stills and Nash. The ceremony was held in Los Angeles in 1993.

Rock Hall officials have said they are open to having the ceremony in Cleveland every three years.

"It's going to be a great celebration," Peresman said. "I think it will be terrific for Cleveland. That's always our goal, one way or the other -- to build awareness and drive business to Cleveland."

Jeff Beck, Bobby Womack - yeah man, doesn't get much better than this.

Congrats to all the inductees.

What a year 2009 it is shaping up to be for Jeff Beck. A first-ever official DVD/Blu-ray concert release coming March 30th on Eagle Rock Vision; a world tour that starts next Friday in Australia (supported by David Sancious, Vinnie Colaiuta and Tal Wilkenfeld); two Japanese concerts co-headlining with Eric Clapton; the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist on April 4th; and a studio album set for a summer release.

Run-DMC, Metallica lead list of 2009 Rock Hall|

|By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY|
|AP Music Writer|

NEW YORK (AP) — Run-DMC once hailed themselves as the Kings of Rock, so it’s fitting that the pioneering rappers have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Run-DMC joins the heavy metal band Metallica, guitarist Jeff Beck, soul singer Bobby Womack and doo-wop group Little Anthony and the Imperials as this year’s inductee class.

Though Run-DMC wasn’t among the first rap acts, they were the first to achieve widespread mainstream success, and the first to notch a platinum album. The rapping duo of Joseph ‘‘Run’’ Simmons and Darryl ‘‘DMC’’ McDaniels — plus their DJ, the late Jam Master Jay — were rap’s first rock stars. They had hits with songs like ‘‘My Adiddas’’ and ‘‘It’s Tricky,’’ but had their greatest success when they remade Aerosmith’s ‘‘Walk This Way’’ with the rock act for a groundbreaking collaboration.

In an interview Wednesday, McDaniels called their induction ‘‘inconceivable.’’
‘‘I’m a rap dude, I’m an MC from Hollis (a neighborhood in New York’s borough of Queens), just rockin’ the mic, and to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with the Beatles, and (Bob) Dylan, and the rock ’n’ roll gods? It’s ridiculous! Ridiculous in a good way,’’ he said.

He also gave a nod to the predecessors who paved the way for the group’s success: ‘‘I share this nomination and the induction and the whole award with those cats, everyone from the Bronx and Harlem who started this.’’

Jam Master Jay — whose real name was Jason Mizell — was shot to death in his recording studio in 2002. McDaniels doesn’t consider the induction bittersweet — ‘‘because Jay isn’t here to celebrate doesn’t mean he’s not partaking in this event’’ — but said he couldn’t see the duo performing during the April 4 induction ceremony in Cleveland without him.

‘‘We can’t do it without Jay,’’ he said. ‘‘I want people to remember the last time they saw us together, the three of us.’’

Like Run-DMC, Metallica made its debut 25 years ago with the seminal album ‘‘Kill ’Em All,’’ and became pioneers in their genre, with their thrashing metal sound, led by the frenetic guitar play of James Hetfield and the drumming of Lars Ulrich.

One of rock’s more enduring bands, the group has sold upwards of 60 million records in the United States alone, and are still one of music’s most successful acts: They are on a top-selling tour, their latest album, ‘‘Death Magnetic,’’ has sold more than a million copies and has also been nominated for Grammy awards.

Rockabilly singer Wanda Jackson got a nod for the early influence category, and the sidemen inductees are session musician Spooner Oldham and two of Elvis Presley’s musicians — drummer D.J. Fontana and bassist Bill Black.

The R.&.R.H.O.Shame never ceases to amaze me. There are some artists that deserve to be in there, and then there's acts like Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, KISS, Chic, Cheap Trick (and others) that should have been in there moons ago.

Jann Wenner, Dave Marsh and Roll One (Rolling Stone) magazine are clueless fools.

Yep..u r correct...There are folks that deserved to get the nod...There are even folks over the years who should have never been inducted...But out of the folks that you named all I see is Cooper and Chic who truly deserve a nod...(Although I dig a few joints from Cheap Trick, I would put the Cars in before them...)

As for the current inductees, this is probably the best (and most eclectic) list I've seen in a minute...Whenever you get a nod to soul, classic hip hop, legitimate metal and doo-wop, that's a good list...And I believe Jeff Beck got the nod as well...Not bad at all...

But I know that alot of folks on the Org will continue to side-eye this years inductees because a hip hop act were ushered in (GOOD LORD, IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD..LOL)...

It is what it is folks....These were some good choices...

However, I am annoyed that Chic didn't get in. Donna Summer most likely won't make it either. Why are they so anti disco?

His personal life has nothing to do with his professional life as a musician. They are two separate things, plus....nobody's perfect...it's not fair to judge. James Brown and Jimi Hendrix are musical legends, but they both were women beaters, that doesn't stop them from being musical legends.
But anywho rolleyes

So glad Bobby got in!!! woot! I'll definitely be tuning in that night to see him get inducted. Wonder who will do the honors for him? Or perform in tribute to him? hmmm

somebody once said about the hall of fame, that the induction isn't so much about the artists who contributed 2 rock n roll, as much as it's about the ones who made the most money doin it. It's a damn shame Chic got snubbed once again bein that Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards' sound was the foundation 4 Hip-Hop or the fact that their ears revived a lot of dead careers in the 80's, but then we still aint seen Chicago....Rick James.....Blood Sweat & Tears....Three Dog Night....The Doobie Brothers....Rare Earth....Donny Hathaway.... Paul Rodgers... Bad Company.... Peter Frampton....Boston...Kansas....Genesis....Phil Collins....Mountain....
