In my top five shows ever. How long ago did you see Wendy and Lisa? I only saw them once at a free show here in the Lower East Side (Arlene's Grocery for any curious New Yorkers). They were testing out Girl Bros. tracks before that album was released. Wendy had to turn to the side and look away from the audience when Lisa sang "Jonathan".

How was that? I remember you mentioning that you were going to one of the shows last year, but I can't recall if you ever posted a review or summary.

My list isn’t that impressive. I stopped going to gigs regularly about 15 years ago, mostly because I was so very tired of having to endure drunkenness & general boorishness at every show I’d attended. The few shows I’ve gone to in the years since have usually just bolstered my opinion that I’d made the right decision. I’m sure I’ve missed a lot of great musical experiences, but I’ve also missed out on watching some drunk buffoon make out with his irritatingly hot girlfriend or listening to some graceless jerk loudly prattle on about his kid’s graduation. Why do people even bother going to these shows if they don’t want to listen?
Anyway, here’s my list: The Beatnigs George Jones Merle Haggard Bowie Prince Gregory Isaacs John Prine Bob Dylan John Cale Motorhead Alice Cooper Chris Spedding The Jazz Butcher Burning Spear Depeche Mode The Selector Robin Hitchcock Alice Donut Willie Nelson That Petrol Emotion The Wailers Rodney Crowell Jesus & Mary Chain The Flatlanders Lucinda Williams Neville Brothers Lush U2 Alejandro Escovedo NRBQ Nitzer Ebb Brian Ferry Bo Diddley Kimberly Rew George Michael Roger Waters Todd Rundgren The Zombies Tom Verlaine Echo & the Bunneymen Arcade Fire Ministry Dimmu Borgir Redd Kross My favourite was probably Bo Diddley - great fun, & it rocked so hard at some points it was almost bizarre. abierman said: Arcade Fire (one of the worst gigs ever!) That's what I thought as well. I went into that show on the fence regarding that band - ambivalent, but willing to be won over - & I walked out absolutely hating them. Pompous, bombastic, horribly overblown...all kinds of bad stuff.

Ooh that blind guitarist thread just reminded me that I need to add Jeff Healey to my list. Some people are like Slinkies...

How was that? I remember you mentioning that you were going to one of the shows last year, but I can't recall if you ever posted a review or summary. It was friggin' LOUD. I post all my concert reviews on MySpace now. This is what I wrote for the MBV show: My poor ears. It was a mistake not to take a pair of free earplugs offered to all ticket holders on the way in to the first of two reunion shows here at Roseland by late 80s/early 90s alternative act My Bloody Valentine. I had read that their shows are some of the noisiest ever, but I didn't realize how loud that was until they launched into the first song, "I Only Said" from their 1991 classic 'Loveless'. The guitars were overwhelming--a constant sonic barrage that wrestled you into a headlock and never let go. After awhile the noise became mind numbing aided by films consisting of quickly edited colorful images that draped the entire stage and when combined with the music and relentless strobe lights could induce a sort of dream (or nightmare) state in the audience. The four piece (Kevin, Belinda, Debbie and Colm) played ferociously, but modestly, without any sort of visual theatrics as the point seemed to be more about the atmosphere created tonight rather than any individual band member. They were almost too loud even for the venue since the speakers on the left of the stage were briefly cutting out every few songs. Another tech problem was the prompt window on the computer showing the films accidentally appearing onstage briefly a few times which annoyingly broke the trance the crowd was in. My ears finally cried uncle during the finale of "You Made Me Realise" where a few seconds of feedback near the end of the song on record was, live, stretched to almost 15 minutes. As loud as everything was before, this part was especially unbearable and after the first few seconds I placed my fingers in my ears and held them there for dear life. It looked like half the people around me had earplugs and the other half didn't. How the latter that weren't covering their ears like myself didn't come away with some kind of permanent hearing loss, I couldn't say. The vibrations coming from the stage during that assault were so intense that people were raising their arms in the air so they could literally feel the sound waves with their hands. It was truly a unique experience, one I'm happy I had, but would not go through again without the aid of earplugs.
Setlist: I Only Said When You Sleep You Never Should (When You Wake) You're Still In A Dream Cigarette In Your Bed Come In Alone Only Shallow Thorn Nothing Much To Lose To Here Knows When Slow Soon Feed Me With Your Kiss You Made Me Realise 80 minutes http://blogs.myspace.com/...=439223530
