Its a modern day minstrel show, Lil John and Lil Wayne are perfect Jim Crow and Zip Coon I think. Its not music either swearing along to a 1980s drum machine beat has no musical talent. Rap is all image, pouting, crap and talking shit to sampled ass beats. Its a form of crude and debased culture. I would say its more vulgar than sleazy. Theres nothing sexual about "Bitch this pussy is mine ho" mad
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Unfortunately, yes.

Though it's far from the only genre to be so.

???mad Truth Is Out Of Style
you have to see for top: we cannot debate the validity of a style with generalities, above all when we know that all of the manners are always in evolution!!!

yes, yes

but sometimes it can't be funny and entertaining, the problem with rap is that many of our young people live their lives vicariously via it; and the messengers for the most part are liars and false phophets of rhyme - because they are millionaires that have handlers that would wipe their asses to make them content
they are not worried about gas prices, bread prices, milk prices, heating bills in the winter, job loss - instead they trying to find weed, crack, loose sluts and down low homo encounters (LOL)
they get mad if their whack ass records don't sell, or want favour when they are arrested for criminal behavour, "I'm an artist" (ask Yung Berg)
Women have allowed men to speak to them in any kind of way, call them female dogs, garden tools, and even calling them, 'man' and wheedling them into lesbo activity in the bedroom, and then play the part of sperm donor and asking for gas money to take them to get an abortion
this is not all rap's fault - but the wretched lyrics and themes help set the bckdrop for this foul excuse for a music form, the isn't very original most of the time

That statement is as ridiculous as saying Black men are at fault for allowing white men to call them N*gger"and or "Boy".

I think one of our biggest problems in our community (especially among black boys/men.... men in general) is we waste time and a life blaming others for our lack of integrity and self-respect. You and only you are responsible for how you choose to live your life and what comes out of your mouth. "The devil made me do it" speaks volumes about those who live life without boundaries, self-worth, and self control. To say your ethics and personal integrity is based on others keeping you "in-line" speaks of a person who couldn't be trusted when no one is watching. As my late father use to say, "You are the captain of your own soul." That having been said.

'Do You Think Rap Is Vulgar or Sleazy?'

It's evolved into the music of death. With our rich history of the art/culture/ music this is the first time in our history in this country we've promoted (celebrated even) our own inhumanity against each other with no remorse nor apologies. RnBAmbassador is spot on when he says raps not to blame but it's a reflection of a mindset. I think it speaks to some uncomfortable truths about our anger/fear, lack of confidence, shame, and deep, deep, deep self-hatred.

I don't usually listen to rap,but the occasional times that I have been in my sister's boyfriends car I have gotten the opportunity to hear it.It is the only music he listens to. The rap that he plays,is not my taste at all, when fuck is used as practically as every other word,I have no time for it.Also songs that sound very degrating to women. The two songs that bboy87 posted,I really like! So I guess it really depends on the artist, not all of them are going to find the need to use a pelethera of curses to make a song.
