Right On! Stax was the shit and its kinda ironic that it was run by a couple of white folks (Jim Stewart and Estelle Axton, the combination of both names makes the label's name) out of a movie theatre.
More Stax-acts which I admire:

Ines Foxx
Booker T & the M.G.s
William Bell
Eddie Floyd
The Mad Lads
Albert King
Wilson Pickett
Don Covay

Funny you have mentioned the Bar-Keys, cuz it just made me think of the Mar-Keys, the label's first house band. It consisted of Estelle Axton's son Packy, Wayne Jackson, Terry Johnson, Don Nix, Smoochy Smith, Duck Dunn (later one of the MGs) and Steve Cropper (MGs). They were all just a bunch of hip white guys and they sounded so funky that everybody was convinced they were black.
The Bar-Keys became the second house band, but as we all know all of them but one have become victoms of the tragic plane crash Otis has died in.
The second Bar-Keys which carried the Funk into the 70s was dope as well, but didnt touch the originals.

The sound of Stax will never die. Long live Soulsville U.S.A. headbang

WRONG FORUM THOUGH!

They dont really make soul like that anymore because times have changed. Soul music has influenced the civil right movement more than the movement had influence of the music. The era of Soul was an era hof hope and challenge. And that hope is transmitted in the music. Soul music is also the emancipation from gospel and from blues. Its positivity paired with pure fun.
Today there is more need for Soul music than ever. But black people have liberated to a certain extend... and since they make money now there is no need for Soul. Looking at contemporary black music shows that people bought into the bullshit. And the few great soul artists who havent compromized are living very depressed lives today.
But the music will always be there. Nobody can take that away from us
