That "brave young life" phrase is embarrassing though.

I think it's meant to be mocking. The guy's obviously suffering from survivor's guilt and self-loathing and is quoting what the paper said.

Oh, I see. The phrase still jars though, and that "misty vapor" thing glares too. Mostly though, I wish he'd have left that whole "give me your kiss" thing out of it. It's too much of an obvious songwriter's device. He's falling back on cliche there. The whole "rise up" motif on other songs had the same contrived feel to it to me.

By the by: Springsteen's recorded an hour for E Street Radio (SIRIUS XM) wherein he spins some songs he likes from other artists and talks about 'em. Premieres Monday.

I heard the promo and it was really weird listening to him say "This is Bruce Springsteen". In my thirty years of fandom, I don't think I've ever heard him say the word "Springsteen" before, oddly enough. lol

The "misty cloud of pink vapor" was the subject of much debate amongst the fans when the album came out. One theory was that it was a reference to a phenomenon that occurred when jumpers' bodies hit the ground. Seeing as the song was written in the early '90s, I don't think that's the case. I mean, he could have changed some lines when he recorded it for The Rising, but I don't think this interpretation is correct.

Just a heads up.

I got it a few days ago and I'm very disappointed. he has his own Planet earth now. lol

This cd is badly produced (God I really hate Brendan O'Brien). Bass + guitar + drums are a big mess and on the top of that keys or violins with a Phil Spector's wall of sound touch.
Too much too handle for me.

Too many styles as well on the same cd. There is no balance, no link between these tunes.

I'd never thought I'd say that of BS but there are amazingly lame lyrics (Surprise surprise or The queen of the supermarket).

I love Bruce but this cd is far from his standard.

I really dig the opening with Outlaw Pete though. Ican listen to this one over and over again.

Surely, it can't possibly be any worse than these turds:

Working on a dream is as bad as Planet earth and miles away from the quality of 3121.
