Tracy Chapman fans in here please...

Been hearing her on the radio (the hits) a fair bit lately, really enjoying her stuff. Where does one start collecting?

is this a good start?

1. Fast Car
2. Subcity
3. Baby I Can Hold You
4. The Promise
5. I'm Ready
6. Crossroads
7. Bang Bang Bang
8. Telling Stories
9. Smoke and Ashes
10. Speak the Word
11. Wedding Song
12. Open Arms
13. Give Me One Reason
14. Talkin' Bout a Revolution
15. She's Got Her Ticket
16. All That You Have Is Your Soul

or a regular album?

Thanks! biggrin

without a doubt you MUST own this album or go get it if you don't.

calling it a masterpiece would be an understatement. all her albums a good. "crossroads", "from the heart" and "new beginings" are the next i'd recomend.

ooman. I dig her. She made conscious music. Black folk music that was conscious. I put her in with Living Colour for making rock more relevant to black people. I mention LC cuz they buddies and covered her song "Talkin' About A Revolution".

She's faded since, but has staged a number of comebacks, but none of them really took off in USA. I walked into one of her showcases and....well it was like a MeShell show: lots of "girls on dates". knowwhatImean?

I have the debut and the followup

Are you hearing new stuff from her? I wasn't hip. I'll have to check her website.
Thanks for posting.

I am in love with this woman. If stalking weren't illegal, that's what I'd be doing to Ms. Chapman right now.

Get the first album. And stop right there.

I agree. I only own her first album and "New Beginning", but I think she's a great, unique artist. I love her voice.

I just heard her "Singing for You," a few days ago. I was in my car and had turned to the song in the middle. I kept thinking: "Gosh, that sounds like Tracy. But, I don't want to get my hopes up and think it's actually her..."

excited

It was!

No, no no,
I have her entire catalog and except for the one released in November, I say go for it. My favorites 'Tracy Chapman,' 'New Beginnings' and 'Telling Stories.'

I recommend 'New Beginnings' first. 'Telling Stories' didn't grab me the first time, but a couple of songs 'Devotion,' and 'First Try' kept me coming back and now I love it.
Her debut is classic and very good, so you could start there but so far I've enjoyed everything she's done. Haven't finished listening to her latest but it's more polished than her prior albums.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
