Jamiroquai getting ready to sign with Universal; new CD due in 2009 Jay Kay back in the fray as Jamiroquai discuss new deal
The Daily Mirror (UK) December 19,2008 Just when it seemed Space Cowboy Jay Kay had hung up his spurs,we hear Jamiroquai plan to mosey back into town. Apart from releasing a greatest hits album,'High Times',over two years ago and playing the odd gig abroad, they have been keeping a low profile. But now they are in talks with Universal over a new deal. We hear: "The plan is to make a new album, then tour. Most of the album is written, they just have to finish it.Negotiations have been going on for some time but it seems things have been smoothed out.Jay is desperate to get back into the game again". and keyboardist Matt Johnson recently posted this message on his Myspace blog: "It's been a mad busy year for me,making what is going to be a monstrously good new album with Jamiroquai...I'm really looking forward to touring the new album with Jay and the chaps next year.I really think it's going to be a special album".

Interesting. In some ways I was hoping he would go the indie route for a few years and release something slightly more personal/experimental/deeper after having just completed such a massive commercial contract with Sony. But hey, any news of new-Jamiroquai-jams is always welcome! (though I must say Dynamite and Funk Odyssey really didn't do much for me - they can still kick it live though). Several years ago,Jay was talking about "going independent" and releasing his music directly to his fans on-line without a major record company.Sound familiar? That's easier said than done and Prince hasn't exactly had much success doing that,so I'm glad that Jay came to his senses. 'A Funk Odyssey' is my favorite CD of this decade.'Dynamite' wasn't quite as good, but it still had some solid jams.I look forward to the new album.
