Pointer Sisters - SERIOUS SLAMMIN' (1988)

Lawd was it funky! The Pointer Sister's 1988 album SERIOUS SLAMMIN'. It was their last for RCA and their last album produced by Richard Perry. It really should have been a bigger hit for the sisters as it gushes hot late 80's R&B/Dance music.

1. Serious Slammin'
2. Shut Up And Dance
3. Moonlight Dancing
4. He Turned Me Out
5. Flirtatious
6. My Life (remix)
7. I'm In Love
8. Pride
9. Uh Uh
10. I Will Be There

I'm glad I am not alone on my famming out on Pointer Sisters this week.

I went and bought myself 2 of their CDs, Break Out and Contact. My parents and aunties used to have these records and I hadn't heard them in a long time. music

The only song I'm familiar with is "He Turned Me Out",which appeared on the 'Action Jackson' movie soundtrack.I felt kinda bad for the girls around this time.It seemed like radio wasn't playing them as much anymore and their singles were flopping.

Btw,their next album 'The Right Rhythm' (I think it was called?) was recorded at Prince's Paisley Park studios. One of Prince's bandmembers produced something on it.

The Pointer Sisters - RIGHT RHYTHM was released on Motown Records in 1990. It was produced by Levi Spencer Jr. It continued in the path of hard-edged R&B and Dance music as had the previous album SERIOUS SLAMMIN'. Three singles were released; "Friend's Advice (Don't Take It)", "After You", and "Insanity". The latter had some impact on the dance/club charts but as a whole the album flopped and turned into a one-off with Motown. Their next album came out in 1993 on the now defunct, SBK Records, and was titled ONLY SISTERS CAN DO THAT.

very underrated album, from a underrated time period. The later 80's had some classic albums and artists that were coming along. Since this was their last with the label, the label was not going to really get behind it for the most part as with previous records.

The Pointer Sisters were so underrated. Their music was really great pop music and their vocals were so suited to whatever style of music they chose to sing.
